An Australian senator has raised eyebrows after revealing her $200,000 salary wasn’t a lot of money for a politician.

Lucy Gichuhi also told a Kenyan TV show it was difficult to get house girls to help with domestic duties.

I reckon nothing will top the Tony Abbott sook in 2008.

He linked his pay cut with mortgage stress.

I think people who work on a Sunday will know a lot more about mortgage stress in a week.

That reminds me of a whinge by one of the Head Honchos at the NAB who cried he was paying 75 cents in the Dollar Tax.
I cant remember how much he was getting per annum but say it was $1Million, take away $750,000 which left him $250,000 which was still 10 times the average workers wage BEFORE Tax...........
His cry was he had a mortgage to pay and private school fees.
So did the worker on the average wage of about $14,000 after Tax.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

The most obscene thing I have seen on the box recently was Abbot and Albanese, sitting side by side and defending politicians entitlements. They were hand in hand like good 'ol buddies. Cut from the same cloth.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

but people hear this and still vote in these career politicians.

I think many need a bit of a reality check.

So this Kenyan politician was born in Kenya. How did she end up here and how long has she been here?

I have always said that the paypackets for these leeches on society should be linked to average weekly earnings. AWE being the average weekly wage for normal wage earners, not including the top 5% of salary earners eg bank executives etc. As we want the best & the brightest etc I would suggest something like

When first elected AWE x 1.5
If re elected AWE x 1.6, if re elected again AWE 1.7 etc
If a minister then an additional AWE so a minister who had been re elected twice would be 1.7 +1 = 2.7 AWE

All extras eg accommodation, travel etc be done as per ATO rules as applicable to the normal wage earner.

Obviously the current gravy train is not attracting the best possible candidates

The problem at the end of the day is the organisation of the parties and sheer apathy. Hardly anyone is a member of even the major parties and branch numbers are very small. Branches are dominated by the numbers men and those who wish to manipulate the system for their own personal benefit. So the candidates selected are quite often the worst kind of scum motivated mainly by their own enrichment and power and thoroughly beholden to those who put them there. When parties take away decisions from the branches then the power shifts to the head office scum who are even less accountable. Thus we are seeing a huge gap between the rank and file supporters of both major parties and their parliamentary representatives and administration. So Labor, supposedly representing the working man, instead represents the progressive elites and supports causes probably opposed by a majority of their supporters. And the Libs are similarly unaccountable, also pursuing progressive policies and ignoring many of their supporters in the knowledge that, as Turnbull put it displaying eloquence otherwise lacking, where else can they go. For example, the recent motion to sell the ABC was treated with utter contempt by the leaders of the Parliamentary party. Even more blatant was the frustration by the power brokers of the proposal to democratise the party.

I wonder what Labor's leaders will do if their conference votes to go soft on illegal immigrants. Many if not the vast majority of their MP's seem to support this. But losing your job and remaining in Opposition is a powerful incentive to abandon your principles.

I hold virtually all of these politicians in absolute contempt.

I am not in favour of having mandatory requirements for Politicians as they can backfire badly.
As an example when our 2 Councils merged some years ago, the Rural sector were very concerned the 'Townies' would swamp the new Council so the area was divided into Wards which everyone thought would balance the situation until no one nominated for our ward.....not a bleedy soul..........
Currently this is being seen with the number of Women standing for election, everyone is saying we need more Women at any Government level but their not nominating are they?

Reducing the prison population by Suicide is a bit over the top but I guess it helps in some way.
