It might also work with 'roids, so maybe ask in a car forum that deals with that model.
Looking at a car for wifey which happens to have carplay for iphones. We used to have iphones and now have supermarket androids but if we get this car I was thinking of surprising her with a new but older model iphone like the iphone 6. Apart from all the tricks apple play, or used to with superseded models, is there any problem with a new iphone 6 and carplay?
I know the phone is a few years old but I don't care that it isn't the latest, just want it to work with the car. Thanks in advance.

Yes there is android play but I'm a bit wary of it, only because the dealer has to download it and our phones are bottom of the range. I heard it works with most phones perfectly, murphy's law would say her cheap phone would cause grief. It's one of those apple things that just works, I think.
It would still be cheaper to try than purchasing a bit of fruit.

I would think the iphone 6 would be fine. It will come with the lastest ios so should not be a problem

Brand new iphone6 is $396 at officeworks unlocked. Her supermarket android has become unusable, so that's why Im looking at one. I swore off fruit after a few handsets some years ago due to $ but compatibility with the car will make it perfect for her. I will keep my I love coles android for now.
From the Apple website: "You need an iPhone 5 or later to use CarPlay. " so absolutely A-OK with an Iphone 6
