then mine the uranium under it and destroy the rock.
or turn it into a giant theme park with ski lift to the top.

Yep, can see it now, Ayres Rock sold on a 99 year lease to a Chinese consortium backed by their government, with a Gondola to the top.
Chinese tourist getting preference on the rides over every one else. The aborigine community who had never lived there prior to the white man finding some where to make a dollar, all driving around in brand new BMW, Benzs etc with smashed wind screens, doors and bonnets missing

I think you are being a little Cynical there, allover. The aboriginal community who live there, won't change at all. Those who live in Sydney and Cantberra, OTOH............

I always remember a teacher friend who took his wife and 2 young primary school aged kids up the center and back on his long service leave. His comment that you tell the kids of equality and goodness etc, but the kids have eyes and can draw their own conclusions

The sad thing is, many of those in communities just want to be left alone. I've known many Aboriginal people over the years and many of them are not unlike you and me. They don't want a handout, they do, however, want to be able to live their lives as they choose. It makes it difficult for those who want to live off the land as their forefathers did, because we have made sure that they cannot safely do that any more. Every society has its bludgers and alcoholics. The only difference is that the Aboriginal alcos, in many cases, are enabled. "It's not your fault, here, have some more money".... If all Australians truly were equal, we'd all have exactly the same benefits and opportunities.

That's a bit unrealistic. It's more likely to be Bridge Climb Australia they lease it to.

I hope there is a huge drop off in revenue for the clowns running this. The same thing is happening in the peoples republic of Victoria under chairman Andrews. In the Grampians.

I climbed Ares rock back in the 70's I can't remember how many people started but only two including myself made it to the top and signed the book up there. At the time there where only two chains setup with a gap between them. The gap was to sort out these who maybe would fail getting to the top. It was over 40C and near midday and the other guy had decided to go in bear feet. He had some major blisters on both feet.

I made a dick of myself asking the ranger is there a water tap around here ?? :-) At the time the only water there was via a bore and you had to add cordial to it so it was drinkable.

I don't really see the agro and wishing a drop in revenue just because a particular group got thier wishes after many years of trying

    Who gives a flying F#$k....
And besides, 80% of people that go there, don't climb it
And there is more tourists than accommodation available
I can't see much change.... There will still be the AAT Bus Tours doing $300 a head sunset dinners and watching the rock
Those people never wished to climb it anyway

I am looking forward to that Hero that will climb it anyway though.... Im sure he will do it just to get on the news

There are bigger issues with local tracks and areas being locked up and 1080 baits being used throughout Victoria than some Rock

The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

All I get is a "Subscribe to the NT News page" - Even when I was living there, I did not subscribe to it! And I've been on the front page - that's how much 'NEWS' they print.

I was just thinking, what ever revenue they might be down now the climb is closed, will probably be off-set for a long long time for the extra revenue they have made over the passed 3 years.
    Especially the passed 12 months
