    Default Ayers Rock Climb

Ayers Rock Climb closed 2019 any one going to do it before it is closed.
if you are i have some hints and info.

stay at the yulara camp ground or this place will suck the money out of you faster than a strip club or casino.
the yulara camp ground the camp ground cost $39 a night has the best out doors kitchen i have ever seen fridge microwave cook tops toaster kettle.
has showers washing machines good clean toilets.
the IGA in yulara is real good on prices and has everything.
$25 per adult for a 3 day pass to get to rock.
AVOID tour groups they just herd you around the rock around the rock and fill you with BS.
ok so you want to fly around the rock and get a 360 degree view of the rock like they claim on their web site FVCKING WRONG they are only allowed to fly three kilometers from the rock and only show you one side the same with the olgas (whoops there goes $650) but you get to go around mount conner.
NO problem i will take millions of photos NO YOU WONT unless you go into camera ninja mode.
    NO PHOTO signs everywhere.
don't touch the rock it will cost you $100.
but you cant it has a fence around it.
the rock felt like a cattle herding pen it annoyed the hell out of me.
park rangers every where to try score some $$$$.
    so off to the olgas.
more fences less rangers FVCK it time to climb one.
the climb was killer but the view paid off and got it in 4K.
i have a friend that was there in the 60's there was no abo's and heaps of wildlife now there are heaps of abo's and only saw 2 birds and 1 kangaroo.
don't stay too long i blasted trough 1k in 3 days

so i am guessing you went there and all the DON'T signs made you mad.
the place looks like a heap of hippies on LSD made all the signs and there is hundreds of them costing more than 1k each.
even the fence posts are custom.

I was actually thinking of doing it in a couple of weeks, but I'm putting it off until next year.
Sounds like I'm not missing much.
I look forward to the local economy collapsing when they do shut it down.
It will remind the National Parks and Lands councils which side their bread is buttered.
Did I mention it's white bread?
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

Last time I was there was in 1983 We were travelling north to a wedding with some friends Upon arriving at the rock on Thu night, friends discover that they needed more money for the weekend, NO keycards back then, their nearest bank? Alice Springs! We never did get to climb the thing.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Delightful. We're being banned from part of our own country on the basis of race by our ####ing politicians.

I just turned down 2 nights free Accom at Yulara because I couldn't be assed driving the 500k return distance from the Stuart Hwy.
    When were these fences errected?
They weren't there 3 years ago?
I had a reasonable time at the Rock, saw it in fulll water fall after heavy rains that swept down from Darwin.
    Was very impressive.
Was virtually no one there (went over Christmas Hols)...
Park Fees were cheap then too.
    Accom was cheap also.
The beer at the Outback Bar n Grill icy cold :-)

Prior to the rain, it did nothing for me and I had no interest in climbing it.
Walked around it, 10.4 ks (zero interest in doing that again too)
And you're right, the IGA is cheaper than the Foodworks in my own town.
However, the service station wasn't... $2.30 a litre!

Was a heap of friends planning to climb it on the way home from Finke 2018.
None of them bothered to drive in from the Hwy once I explained it was 500k return.

Plenty of banned and prohibited places, tracks, areas in AU... Why so many upset about no climbing the Rock?

Try climbing Pine Gap and see how far you get.

You have to pay $160 to drive across the Simpson!!!!
Why? It's not like they maintain the track or provide toilets and camp sites.

We had an Elder give us a talk about the Rock, explaining the cultural and spiritual significance it meant to them.
That climbing it was paramount to them climbing on the roof of our church or home....

I thought that was fair enough, hence why I choose not to climb it.
Has nothing to do with politicians.

I got to climb it 10 years ago before the Scaboriginals buggered the place. fukin welfare and tax wasting lazy arseholes . its just a rock , most of it buried underground , no one lives on it and any connection to that dreamtime bullshiit is just made up fairy stories without any evidence to back it up.

ive still gotta laugh though - outside the tavern a couple of boongers were trying to talk me out of climbing it saying thier spririts will be made angry by my presence. At the same time these scabos were trying to get me to buy them some grog - totally illegal and signs everywhere stating that. I told the hypocrites to go get a job and walked off.

Climbing was on my bucket list. Over the years I've missed out on doing things and this would have been one if I left it much longer.
I remember talking the Aborigines at the rock but thought nah I'm still going to do it. I thought the idea was if they can keep numbers to below 20% of the visitors that climb it then they couldn't close it?

    ....Leroy

P.S. I'm proud to say I used the chains, that first bit was hard work!
