No Drone signs seems to be at every Tourist Spot nowdays.....
    They are everywhere here.
All the waterfalls have No Drone signs at the car parks....
The Beach has No Drone signs.

But I thought Ayres Rock was one of the first public locations in Australia where they were banned.

kings canyon says you can fly drones.

so only 20% of tourist climb the rock but put the price up 52% to make up for the lost revenue from tourist not showing up.
so actually 52% of the tourist climb the rock.
had a bit of a look for the ticket gate numbers and cant find any.

    radioactive rock.

What I am wondering about is, if the rock has been so sacred for all these years why is it that they have only just closed it? The land was "given back" to them last century.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Well since last century there has been signs asking you to not climb it
As visitors learned more about Anangu culture and their wishes, the number of visitors climbing Uluru began to drop.
The agreement between Anangu Law and White fella Law was when the climbers dropped to 20% of visitors, they would enact a ban on climbing.

They have been very accommodating i'd have thought
Leaving the onus to climb or not to the individual....

If it were just the odd drone, then I'd be all for letting them fly, problem is, every dog and his man has one, and I'd be with the farmer. It seems like a perfect opportunity for the hunters. The p.bs.c. brigade might actually support hunting of drones.

Flying over somebody's property without permission, sure go ahead and shoot out down if you are not concerned about the exploding and burning battery starting a bushfire.

Banning Drones at tourist spots I have to disagree. They are public spaces, not just for individuals who dislike drones.
People spend a lot of money to go to tourist spots and should have the right to make their OWN videos/pics. What better than with a drone to get the best views without falling down a cliff.
I find a lot more things annoying at tourist spots like the other people and traffic mainly, than just drones.

...and I have not seen every dog and man with one, that is heavily exaggerated.

if you need a drone to see the sights you may as well wait for Nat Geo to show the documentary....

That may possibly be one of the reasons for the ban
Too many people, hence a higher than normal potential for personal injury from a drone user.

I have a friend that uses professional size drones for work (TV Ads, Infra Red Temp Readings on Wind Turbines and Transmission Lines, etc)
And the paperwork and approval he needs to use his drone in a public place is crazy
Flight is registered with CASA before flying, Registered with the local Council, plus Traffic Management to keep min distance from people.

Can't see Joe Punter doing any of that with his personal drone

I agree, it makes for amazing footage, i love watching it.
But it seems the Councils and National Parks have made a blanket rule

I guess now the Ayre's Rock climb is closed, they could let drones fly up there and become like tennis balls on a roof

That was kind of my point in post 143. I would not be breaking any (CASA) rules anymore.
But the locals would need to convince me why my drone is insulting their gods.

If it were solely up to me I would do just that and never go to these tourist destinations in the first place.

Problem is I have an unhealable addiction to do everything myself, including my own pictures and videos as souvenirs and I am NOT talking about selfies, I have NEVER made one.
I used to do little slide shows with self composed music of my trips long before small camcorders became available to the general public but land based video is today boring.
So if I can't do what the state of the art today provides it is pointless to go there.
I feel more an more like never leaving the house anymore because the world sucks and EVERYTHING is forbidden these days.
So yes I will watch the world from the Internet.
