Kodi embraces DRM
-
It's actually a bit of a storm in a teacup. Some purists will object to any DRM support at all. For the rest of us it is likely a non-issue. It does not seem to limit existing addons but simply provides a further option. By adding support for DRM Kodi is hoping that content providers will embrace the platform and offer official addons. This may or may not occur. It could well be that content providers will shun Kodi unless they eliminate its potential use for piracy, which effectively would involve restricting the use of the addon functionality. If they were to cripple Kodi in this manner there may still be a place for it, but many users will no doubt abandon it. And, of course, Kodi is open source, so crippling the platform in such a manner would no doubt result in one or more uncrippled "forks" quite ready to take in the Kodi refugees.
