Which model UEC VAST decoder do you have?
If it uses an external USB HDD, here's a list of recommended drives from UEC.
I've personally used Seagate & Buffalo without any issues.
Easy to replace... just plug in.
Hi - HDD has been on its way out on my Altech. In the past when it came up with the error “can’t recognise HDD” or something like that, I pulled the cord for a little while, restarted and it worked again. This week doing that trick has temporarily worked but then it’s not recorded anything I’ve had programmed and always come up with the same error. Should I just get a new HDD or buy a whole new box? If just HDD what do you recommend? Is it hard to change over? I’ve done one on a top field a few years ago, hoping it’s as easy.

Difficult to determine if it's a drive issue or something else with the decoder.
Replacing the whole device is a sure fix, but if you have a spare HDD it's worth a try first.
I haven't performed a drive replacement in this particular model, but if it's like others, it's just a matter of unplugging and removing the drive and fitting the replacement.
Very straightforward.
It will probably prompt you to format the drive, but if not, that option should be in a menu.
Remember that formatting a drive will erase everything on it.
UEC uses some form of proprietary format, so it's important to format the drive in the device.
