Yep that will work well but it will be in a stairwell so I don't want to add mats.
I need more like a beam across and with connection one side only is even better.

I have 2 house dogs...Do you know if the laser can be turned down on these ? They only need to sense around 80cm.

    Interesting choices.
Some to dear, some too big.
I like the first one but it's got a delayed turn on. However, I followed the lead and found this one which I think would be good :

Which also lead to this discovery. I'm tempted to try it first,, then again I'll just buy a couple anyway (less than 6 bucks for 3 of them) :

    PIRs arrived.
They work really well and so cheap. Surprisingly sensitive too (maybe 5-6metres), but that is a small problem in itself for me.
I'm finding that the sensitivity adjustment doesn't do much to lessen the sensitivity.
The sensor picks up from quite a wide angle so I removed the white dome from it and fashioned a short piece of heatshrink tube directly onto the sensor. That gives it more of a beam which is what I need but it would be better if I could get it to only sense for a couple of feet.

I have used alliminum tape as fridgys use then cut a small hole in the centre untill you get what you want !! the sensor "sees "thru some materials so heat shrink wont work well just keep getting the hole bigger to change directionals / sensitivity . I tried the sensor changes but it was too fiddly to get correct so stuck to plastic cover for adjustments
