    Default POWERSHOP electricity provider

looking at getting the solar done and looking around for power suppliers
and was pointed toward powershop because they will do the smart meter install
for free instead of the $500-700 i have been quoted.

so does anyone use powershop or have used them in the past and what are they like.

My warning is the caveat that there no such thing as a 'Free Lunch' and to 'GIVE' one worth up to $700 makes me wary.
Regrettably today there still so much hype and dodgy offers floating about to encourage people to install Solar systems.
I still get calls from some Solar Seller Cold caller telling me they have reps in my area later this week and are ready to call and advise...............

If Australia is a democracy why, then, is voting compulsory?

I think that being a long-time member, Guiseppe is well aware of that.

Yes, I have used them, but no longer do.

They hiked my rates 30% in one go so I left. They also gave 1 million dollars to Getup, which didnt impress me at all, as well as spruiking Gay marriage to customers. I want electricity, not to support lunatic leftist groups and their ideologies.

I do miss their app though, its a great idea to buy power in advance if you want and watch your daily use.

If you are getting Solar, I would suggest AGL Solar Saver, thats where solar owners are flocking as AGL is paying 20 cents a kw/h as its standard FIT.

Regardless, Powershop dont have contracts as far as I know, most companies dont these days. Even if you sign up for a 2 year deal, you can leave without penalty. Every power user should check their rates in August, as power companies change their rates and feed in tariffs after the 31st of July.

    Hope the above helps.

Yeah, I will be doing the same. I am currently with Red Energy and would be silly not to take up a 20 cents per kw/h offer with an 8kw system. Just on Dec, Jan and Feb last year, it would be an extra $220 in my pocket.

Seeing AGL has just declared their biggest Profit ever of about a $Billion, I am sure they can afford to give that rebate on your electricity.

If I ever went Solar, my intention would be to go completely OFF the Grid.

Not much point if you have electricity right in front of your house. Off grid would cost you a fortune that you would never get back, while grid connected solar would wipe out your bill and give you some money back.

They are all a bunch of crooks, don't think any of these "green" companies are any better. Powershop paid GetUp a million dollars in referrals last year , and in return GetUp immediately started a campaign against the big 3 power companies. What a coincidence.

Whoever pays the highest FIT gets my business. 20 cents per kw/h is the best standard FIT that has appeared since I got solar, everyone else is paying a touch over half of that.

I used to have a similar bill, so you should be able to almost wipe it out if you are getting 20 cents FIT back. I had pretty much a zero bill until recently when I decided to start using my 8kw split system to do some winter heating.
With a smart meter and TOU (peak/off peak/shoulder), running the split during the off peak periods is I think cheaper than running the gas ducted system.

One thing I am sorry not to have done years ago is have Solar Hot Water but I was wary of the system in this area when it can and does drop to Minus 11C as it did recently.
I am not worried about it not heating but bursting which I have heard some have done.
Even if it only heated the water in Winter hot enough to wash your hands, that would be great.

I'm currently investigating upgrading our PV system. I currently have a Clenergy SPH15 inverter attached to the system, would they just add another system in parallel or would they replace the inverter? Advantages? I'm also wondering if I set up a system on my shed could I feed in from there which is just a 15A circuit on the power board, or would I have to run a line all the way back to the mains feed in point. How would it affect the meter? I might even consider a battery backup system if it is worthwhile.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
