Well at least he wont do that ever again, what a waste of a perfectly good plane

I bet the F15 pilot was VERY disappointed he didn't get the chance to launch an air to air of use his machine gun

And the USA want us to fill out at ESTA before we enter their country, yet they allow workers to take off and fly a commercial plane, then crash it where they see fit.

    Well good on him.
He should be congratulated for not shooting up his work place or taking a planeload of passengers with him or fvcking anything up on the ground.
A bit of a shame about the Dash-8. I'm surprised he didn't at least give them some new information about the performance limits of the plane.
If you're going to top yourself, how about a couple of hammer head stalls, a barrel roll, a few more loops and high G turns for the flight recorder.

A 1G barrel roll would be my first choice, just to prove you could do it

Why would you steal a Dash-8? They aren't particularly special, bluddy noisy and, well it would have been more interesting had he stolen a Jumbo.....

Having flown the F-18 simulator a few times, I found landing is the hardest part. Taking off is relatively easy, pulling a few manoeuvres would be all good, but eventually ya gotta come down..... Actually, I got in the poo for shooting down a civvy jet, that got in my way when I needed to land, apparently it's frowned upon.

It was an out of service plane, so nobody would take much notice of him moving it around with the tractor(that was his job) getting it in a suitable position. From observation he probably learnt how to start it up and the rest, who knows, from a flight simulator?

According to the article he DID perform barrels.
I always thought the Dash-8 is a strangle looking plane with it narrow wings, appearing not wider than it's horizonal stabiliser. Qantas link uses them to my local area. Maybe that wing/stabiliser design is ideal for such stunts.

I reckon if his intention was to perform suicide, that would have been the optimum thrill to end it.

ABC News has a fairly updated report.

Saying he had the qualifications to fly it (what ever that means)

New footage of him barrel rolling it too....
    Two Fighter Jets in tow....

    1 hour flight time

I take my hat off to the kid.
He got to soar like an eagle before saying good night

This video contains transcripts from his radio messages, assuming they are legit:

In regards to his flight experience he talks about video games.
In the end he says he wouldn't know how to land it, he wasn't planing on landing it.
He did not want to hurt anybody, "to mess stuff up" even with landing attempt, so for him the best way was a nose dive (in the bush) and "call it a night".

Its odd in one way he never said what he had in mind unless when they find the Flight recorders, he might be heard explaining his actions on the Cockpit Voice recorder.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I still think he deserves a thumbs up give the sad circumstance. Could you imagine him flying it under the harbour bridge?
I know quite a few pilots who love to joke they're going to do that when they can't fly anymore, but none of them do.
