Is there any reason that you want W7, it is almost at the end of it's "service life". I've not long migrated to Linux and I'll not willingly return to "the dark side". I understand your desire to rid yourself of W10. Initially, I loved 10, and it was only it's constant updates and changing of my settings that convinced me that there has to be a better way. I'd played with Linux on and off over the years only to return to Windoze because of a lack of support for hardware the way I wanted to and my dependence upon M$ Orifice. I've now been weaned! FWIW it only takes me about 30 minutes to re-install an OS and perform all updates and customisation in Linux. Last time I installed Windoze, it took me a couple of days to get back to a useable and safe OS.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

ive had that issue in the past using wireless keyboard and mouse and overcame it
by using a cabled setup till the install was finished then went back to wireless.

lsemmens as for switching to linux etc some times the apps your using will only work in windowz
and i know i am more than happy with win7pro tried linux and hated it plus i have
many custom apps that will only work in wondows.

I have a heap of stuff on my old computer and my initial idea was to back it up to a ghost image and simply ghost it to the new hp using gandorf winpe etc but the hard drive is not showing up I think it has something to do with GPT vers MBR formatting, not sure thats why I thought I would do a win 7 install. it seems things have changed since I last played with computers. Something about UEFI and Legacy boot options I need to read about also ?

Many new PC’s only have USB 3 ports at start up, and Windows 7 doesn’t support USB 3 without additional drivers. This is likely why a USB keyboard and mouse are not working. Not sure if there is an easy solution unfortunately.

you could also create your own silent install disc with all your drivers
    intergreated from the get go.

Not hard or to time consuming

Problem is with many OEM systems is there is no Win 7 drivers available. Any new HP system that has Win 10 unfortunately won’t have drivers for earlier systems available.

I thought about that, but it normally only takes about 20 minutes to ghost the drive then see if it boots, if it does then check what drivers are missing and fix if possible

Worth giving it a try, especially as you already have a prepared image.

Would be keen to know how you get on, as I ran into a similar problem a while back with Dell. I never found a solution, but didn’t have a suitable image to try your way.

Just go into the BIOS and turn on the USB keyboard option.

I've been caught by this before, the keyboard would work when navigating BIOS but not Windows.

I agree, there are some apps that do not play well with Linux. Often there are good alternatives, for the rest there is WINE or a VM. One thing that many people forget Linux is NOT Windows, as such the end result may be the same, but the method to get there may well be different.

    ANYWAY, BOT:
A wired setup may well work where a wireless on fails. Or, as suggested, the touch screen may be necessary. Can you run something like Speccy to identify the hardware in your box. You may then be able to visit the various hardware manufacturers websites and possibly find legacy drivers.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

The OP is having a problem with Windows!

Constant reference to Linux simply confuses the uninitiated and has nothing whatsoever to do with the OP's problem.

Which is why I said "Back OT" and then offered a viable option. My Linux comment was only in response to fandtm666 who commented on my initial suggestion of an alternative. Please, keep up!

Yes, I'm aware of why you commented, but threads do deviate considerably from the topic on occasions.

    Enough said.
