Default Police Vehicle Warning - Lights and 40kph limit

I think today marked the start of the 40k limit when passing a Police or Ambulance that is stopped with lights going in NSW
Victoria has had this for a while now....

Not sure what you are meant to do if the emergency vehicle is moving?

But just be warned, our local "Super Cop" has started parking up at his usual radar gun location, and leaves his lights running.
I first thought he was trying to avoid work, but i now realise he was fishing for those failing to slow to 40kph
He had no one pulled over, just sitting there all by himself with his lights on and the radar gun out.

Talk about stooping to new lows just to make the quota

The above example is NOT what this law is meant to achieve!!!! I agree with you OB, 100%.

thanks for sharing OB i had no idea that law even existed in other states , and i do drive to NSW occaisionally. I wonder how it would work if the cops pull you over in a 110 zone? imagine all the accidents as others try to slow down to 40 from 110.

That cop near your place sounds like a real revenue raiser ,which is exactly why you should have dashcams fitted , if you can prove he was not active on a job when he pulled you over then you would get off. I have dashcams on everything - car , motorbike , pushbike , boat and after an incident last week - the jetski.

Sounds a bit like the QPWS Ranger turd up here who fines all the boaties , the arsehole sits off the main channel in a go slow zone waving in boaties going past in the main channel . As you pull over and cross into the go slow zone to see what he wants he fines you for going above 6knots in a go slow zone. I had heard about this jackass before but not seen him until last Thursday. I was out on my ski in the main channel , saw him waving me in so i pulled up short outside the white markers and yelled out to him asking what he wanted. he waved me on again

I think most of us use common sense when approaching an emergency vehicle, stopped with its lights on
Most will pull into the other lane partially (if possible) and would have slowed to a safe speed.

Depending on where an emergency vehicle has stopped is another issue
I travel country roads that are winding with many blind corners that are 100kph roads with B-Double Milk Tankers barrelling up and down every day of the week
It is scary enough for a normal motorist to not get very intimidated by these trucks racing from job to job, don't even consider sitting at 90kph or 95kph, they will be on your bumper! Or worse, over take you and hang on the wrong side of the road for ages to get passed.

Then add a Cop with a pulled over motorised around a corner....

Hopefully the truck will stop in time

Not long ago the QLD Hwy Police went on a go slow to force the Government to increase their wages and the Head cop said it on TV in the news "QUOTE" "where not booking people and giving tickets for the next 48 hours so by this it will effect the Government revenue"

HANG ON!!! they always tell us that the tickets are not for revenue its because of road safety. They are full of SHI.T

    This is in their blood.
I remember in primary School there was a kid that played cops and robber with a group of other kid one was me but this one kid had to be the cop and was cruel with other kids and he was reported to the Nuns. When this kid was playing the cop he had to alway win otherwise he would not play and or gets the shi.ts. Many years later this person become a cop and he was at Bankstown HWY Patrol tossed between all other police stations because other cops could not stand him and eventually got remove or forced to be resign by the 1970 NSW whatever Police ethical standards because of his tactics and man handling people. I STILL REMEMBER CLEARLY the day he pulled me over at that cross roads in Sydney for doing everything right and the reason why he pulled me over was because I had a Monaro that attracted attention but this time I had my Father in the car with my father friend which was a barrister. After this my father believe me about this cop that book you for doing nothing including speeding when you car is stopped and you radiator was cold. Yes this was the demise of this young cop after he met with my old man friend. Scumbag.

Drove down from Canungra to Canberra yesterday on the Newell. Long day. There is a large sign on the QLD/NSW border that warns those coming into NSW of this law.

Another sensible idea that is difficult to accurately word in law as there are loopholes.

@OB....that's f*cking low and rough. I wonder how it would go in court.

    Quota?.....what quota?.................

Could be worse I suppose, I believe in SA it's 25Kph.
Providing this law is administered with a bit of common sense, it's more a good thing, than a bad thing. It's only pr1cks like OB mentioned that stuff it up and get the public off side.

Agreed, it is mostly common sense.
I did read it was 25kph in SA, are speedos even accurate at that speed?

it is a problem in rural areas, especially in Summer. Grass fires and the like, and you spend more time slowing down than you do getting to your destination. I don't blame the firey's or ambo's though and I would slow down for them. They have a necessary and critical job. Coppers with a car pulled over is a different situation. Problem is, how to know when they are protecting life and property or revenue raising.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

There should be no NEED to differentiate. OBs cop (sorry ob, but I couldn't think of anything else) should be caught in the act and prosecuted.

    2. you do and put up with what they do and have to put up with, external and internal.

Then you have the right to speak

When he first came to town, there was so much in-fighting at the station, the rest of us were left alone for a year or so.
Old local Cops who had the town sorted for 30 years, all of a sudden being told how to do their job by the new, much younger Sargent.

Yep, he has a reputation enf.
Both those in the job and those out of it think he is a f@#kwit, even the district Inspector shakes his head.

So it was no surprise when he was playing the Blue and Red flashing lights game
In his mind, that would be his way of getting the message out

Im sure this isn't a common behaviour (least i hope so)
Im all for these guys having a safe working environment, if i've been pulled over, i've always left my vehicle and stood on the passenger side of the vehicle
I don't expect these lads to stand out with on coming traffic

Regardless of the origin of the quote, hinekadon. 'Tis YOU who repeated it, and guess what? It IS offensive to ALL hard working cops. Yes, there are some who are on a power trip, but most of them just want to make our community a place that is safe for ALL, and they also want to be able to get home at the end of the day feeling as though they've achieved something.

Yep not ALL cops are bad.

Pretty sure I have always slowed down even when I saw a flashing cop car on it's own and especially if it is a minor highway where there are no wide side strips.
Different are freeway like conditions, where there is plenty of space to safely pass at any speed.
There is almost daily a cop with flashing lights on my stretch of multi lane straight highway who stopped somebody going down the hill @90 instead of 80.
Question if he can simultaneously book me for coasting @80 (and on the right hand lane because I soon have to turn off to the right) while he is dealing with the other perpetrator.

It is always obvious when an emergency/accident has occurred. People slow down just to get a look and that is when a lot of rear-enders happen.
