    Default Ipad mini charge port

    I knew it was coming but looks like i need to replace the charge port on the kids ipad mini 1, i'm usually replacing the screens for her friends ipads
    Going to watch some youtube vids but it looks like a PITA.

    It's a bit of a minor miracle if you can get the old socket off the board without lifting any tracks and the tracks are the only thing holding the socket in place when you're fitting a new socket (if you make it that far without throwing in the towel). Designed to fail and repair discouraged intentionally.

    I have done a few - heat is your friend, plenty of flux and be patient. Pick the ribbon up with your soldering iron and clean up with soder wick, also the ribbon has a little glue just to make it easier to tear the pads off

    also a microscope is a nice tool to have when doing it

    Thanks, i have a couple of old digitizer screens that i can practice removing and re attaching the home button ribbon to before i touch the charge port repair.

    also you will make a mess of the old ribbon - don't be scared of wrecking it to keep the pads

    I have a friend who cuts the ribbon and solder the port to the original ribbon, I haven't tried that yet - there is a with someone doing that to fix the home button of a 6s
