There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"

i have the same evo drive and is great
Only $1685 for a 4TB one
this is what i have just put in mine great us$70
I run an SSD for the C drive with the operating systems and programs plus a bit of recent relevant files.
I have another SSD that I use as the scratch disk for Photoshop and the other 4 Disks are conventional SATA spinny Drives. My machine is old as hell but with these SSD's and a HEAP of ram I have put in the thing, It's still does what I want just fine being I'm too old and complacent to play games.
The photoshop files and work I do can be pretty heavy but I never notice the thing is slow. Biggest hangups I have is through the shitty Windoez operating system which will never be any different even in 20 years time I reckon.
Scratch Disk makes a BIG difference on big files. I do posters and things in high res for printing so nothing for a file I'm working on with layers to be 500M to 1 Gb. Biggest print I have done sop far is 6 Ft Square and that will kill nearly anything without a scratch disk. Can't say mine was speedy doing that with about a dozen layers but it was certainly the difference between doing it and crashing in a heap every time.
The scratch disk saves the machine using all the memory to store the working layers/ files and the SSD being basically ram, makes a big difference. On smaller files up to say A4 or web res, probably wouldn't be that noticeable if you have decent Ram in the machine. Even with normal Drives and bigger files, The scratch disk makes a useful Difference.
I don't use illustrator but if it can be set to a scratch disk and your mate is having speed problems, I'd definitely be getting an SSD and setting it up.

MSY and CentreCom stores sell the Samsung 860 EVO 500GB for $125.00. It's good that the prices are coming down, must get one myself
