    Default Ford EA oil leaks

I have spoken with a mechanic and he says there are multiple oil leaks and that to repair them would be a considerable amount of money - I didn't press for a guesstimate. He went on to say that they all leaked and just top it up with the cheapest oil.

The car has done just over 316,000 km and still in good condition so I would like to "fix" it.

If I spend the money will the leaking be completely stopped given his statement above?

    Comments please.

I owned an EA and EB and they both blew head gaskets after 200+k. From memory it was a known fault of the motor and they all did it. One of the experts might confirm that but if you haven't had the head done it might be something to bear in mind if you need to spend 1000's on oil leaks.

It's a headache if you are still happy with the car, I'm in a similar predicament with a VR Commodore that my son drives.

after 435,000km on the VT Commodore, I could have kept it going but sometimes you just have to draw a line in the sand.

A bit of history. The head etched across at about 150,000 - touch wood the repair is still good. The auto trans was repaired a little while later - both well known faults with the EA but you don't find out till you own one do you?

Overall I am very happy with the car hence my original question. Suck it up and pay the $$$$$ but will the result be an oil drip free car?

there is no crystal ball with cars , you fix one issue and then something else breaks. Personally i would put the money into something a bit newer with less klm. You can buy a BA falcon with some minor issues for 3k and that would be a much better place to start from. better safety , aircon , comfort , fuel efficiency , the works

I have read that an EF will drop straight in but I would prefer to keep the original engine.

I should have stated in my Op that it is a Fairmont Ghia so it does have the bells and whistles.

Regarding fuel efficiency I doubt it - on a flatish highway at 100 km/h I am using a bit over 7 l/100km. I drove a much later model Ford ute for work and its consumption was considerably higher.

EA? And you kept it?????? Pardon my incredulity. I purchased one in 1990 and, after fixing the Head and replacing the tranny (back then there was no guarantee the 4 speed was going to be reliable after fixing, so I fitted a 3 speed) I gave up on it. Fuseable link was another issue had to replace that a couple of times. In the end I went Korean for a few years then bought a Holden! Until that time I had always owned a Ford. I still think Fords drive better than the alternatives, but, for reliability, I'll go Holden any day now. I pensioned off my last Holden (a Statesman) at 300,000ks, not because it was unreliable, but because it was going to cost me lots of money replacing things like shockies and other wear and tear items. I did own an EL Fairmont for a couple of years, and it was not much more reliable than the EA.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Always worth. tryoing stp engine stop leak has seal swell, for power steering leaks a little brake fluid works. For leaky head gasket Rislone copper block seal works(I have just done my Ed).

Here in NSW, if it starts dripping oil onto the road, its a fix or junk choice.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
