    Default 2018/19 Fire Season

Well the year has gone fast and a lot of Victorias North/West remained dry

Here comes the first good lightening front in a while
Thankfully the wind is very light
It will be coming up to "Planned Burn" time of year soon too

As from October 1st, Permits must now be obtained before the lighting of Fires in the Open along with notifying the neighbours.
Typically the Rainfall has been extremely variable with areas a few Kilometres to the East getting drizzle to the West where it has been lucky to put spots on the windscreen.
Prior to that there was some concern being expressed about the volume of 'Fuel' that has accumulated partly because of the reduced rainfall over the last few years but how much affect, if any the recent rains will have to reduce the fire danger remains to be seen.

I'm on the outskirts of Sydney around camden and the last fortnight hasn't been bad around here. about 75mm I think we are up to now with a little more on the way.

On the mid north coast where my father is they have been getting a good drop too.

I have been wondering, if it's a good or a bad thing for fires? Certainly right now everything is lush and green and I would expect not too flammable but if we get the next month hot and dry, is this rain and the growth it has brought on and the moisture it has added going to reduce the fire potential or increase it?

Regardless, I'm sure a lot of farmers and people on the land will just be very happy to have some water back in their dams and some green pasture for the livestock not to mention helping crops.

Looks like a mad rush to install Rapid Earth Fault Current Limiter is under way in my area

Not surprised after the St Patrick Day fires!

Over the last few years, our Poles and Wires have been undergone a scrub clearance program and only 2 weeks or so ago, an 'Overfly' was conducted by Helicopter.
I think this has paid dividends as Power outages are very far and few between, mostly now I think caused by Lightning strikes over loading the system rather than actual damage as the power is generally restored fairly quickly.
