After his enormous research and finally cracking the encryption systems... and the lengthy presentation on how he achieved it.....

"I don't recommend you pirate cable or satellite TV, there's never anything good on, it doesn't matter how many channels you can decrypt, believe me I looked, it's not worth the effort!"

Many of us could have saved him all that time and effort...

Back in the early days, encryption mostly relied on the ignorance of the user but as time progressed, the 'Smartie's' worked out 'How To' and 'Them's That Could' quickly cashed in which has forced the Broadcaster or those supplying the means to supply the programing to engaged in implementing ways to block the free viewing of their programs.
While I wont say these encryption systems are equal to those used by Governments to protect their secrets, I would be surprised to find out they arent very close and are constantly being revised.

While there is no sure way of knowing how much Revenue was lost here back when you buy a Valid Gold Card in most Clubs and Pubs for Foxtel/Austar and those Ethnic Distributors but it must have been quite substantial.
Its made me think at times that had Telstra with its substantial financial base not bought into Subscription TV, others would have been reluctant to buy Shares themselves.
And was it possibly that 'Piracy' was one of a number of reasons that caused TARBS and UBI to close because of lost revenue?
