This is just a quick note to say hi and thank you for the interesting threads I have come across. I am semi-retired and love tinkering with electronics and all its asunder. I teach maths and physics at secondary year 11 and 12 but my true passion is Radio Astronomy. I am in the process of building my own radio telescope and using an SDR as my backend for now. My most recent purchase is a 2.3m mesh dish and I want to motorize it. It presently has a polar mount and I need to do more research so that I can achieve my goal of a full hemisphere auto-scan.

Nice intro.
Welcome aboard.
Hi astrofan what part of radio astro are you after ? have my own interest welcome
Welcome Astofan, you'll find many like minded individuals here.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
My main topic of interest within Radio Astronomy is the generation of images from data collected within the elementary emission spectrum such as the Hydrogen line and hydroxyl emission signals.
Also discovering an undiscovered pulsar or other cosmic anomalies would be a great moment to cherish as well. I am fascinated by the antenna theory and how it opens up possibilities within the world of astronomy even today. Curtin University's low frequency array is an example where we are utilizing the vast space available to us in Australia (in particular Western Australia) and using it to look at the detection of the weak neutral hydrogen from the Early Universe (the “Epoch of Re-ionisation”, when the first stars and galaxies illuminated the Universe, half a billion years after the Big Bang), and production of a 3 pi steradian (3/4 of the whole sky) map of the sky at low radio frequencies.

aha so the hydrogen is more detectable at around 1400mhz and would two dishes set at say 20 wave lengths apart on two recievers looking for the difference in signals be the best way to go then you would detect tiny signals ??? you obviously have much more experiance than me good luck , keep us informed of your progress , very interesting good luck don
