    Default F&P IW812 Washing machine fault

    This machine has occasionally stopped part way through its first rinse with 14 minutes to go. It beeps and displays error code 136. On-line wisdom said this fault was a motor stall fault and could be caused by a) sad spin bearings, b) sad position sensor module. Anyway, the washing machine was becoming increasingly noisy during spin(its 20 or more yrs old). So I replaced the spin bearings and the position sensor module. The new position sensor module was a Mk 2 and had a red bracket that I could not work out where it went. The module fitted and locked into the stator the same as the original so I thought no more about it. The machine was reinstalled in the laundry and wife happily reported the machine was no longer trying to escape from the laundry during spin and ran through its cycle. Didn't last long though the machine is again coming up with error 136 and stalling and beeping every two or three washers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    When you replaced the bearings, did you replace the seals as well? Generally what happens is the seals wear, and allow water to run down the shaft and into the bearings which is what chews them out and makes them noisy.

    Thanks for your reply. Yes I replaced the seal. The spin cycle is now very quiet. Its the pausing and error 136 that is the problem.

    One possible reason is a break where the stator windings connect to the underside of the spade terminals.
    This has become more common since the switch to aluminum magnet wire.

    Have you checked the Pump is clear of lint and obstructions?

    That's interesting, would there be other symptoms if this has occurred? Since replacing the hall affect sensor the pausing and beeping after rinse 1 is more intermittent, one wash out of three will go through uninterrupted.

    I thoroughly cleaned the internals when I replaced the spin bearings and the pump was fine.

    Default re crimp

    your could recrimp the terminals on the ally wires to the hall effect sensors , if you have got a really strong magnifing glass you could look at where the wire goes into the crimp and see if they are corroded which is the cause of intermittant faults

    Check the impeller is totally clean as any build up on it can cause an 'Out of Balance and shut it down.

    Default

    Stator winding resistance can be checked at the back side of the stator connector at the motor controller.
    Probe contact can be made to where the IDT stakes protrude from the wire insulation.

    You don't happen to know what range they should fall into?

    Btw, Statewide Bearings stock the shaft seal for F&P top loaders. It is not pre-greased like the F&P replacement is. I use a low viscosity grease,

    OK back from holidays. I checked the resistance at the control board and got 33 ohms for all three. So that would seem to rule that one out. Bugger!

    The orange wire had green stuff around the terminal. I cleaned this up and pried open the crimp to expose fresh copper and then re-crimped. A dash of solder for good measure. Then measured the resistance of each wire from the hall affect end to the control board end and got 0.3 ohms in every case. Fingers crossed.
