    Default Drone fishing

Has anybody had experience with surf fishing using a quadcopter drone to cast up to 250m ? Does it work ?
So far I can only find expensive modded DJI's

What would be the weight lifting requirement of the drone ?

There is a heap of it online now
    On YT and Fishing Forums.

Considering the mainline would be braid and only the leader mono with at worst an 8ounce lead weight plus baits
    Should do it easy....
Certainly puts the landbased fisherman in range on the boats when fishing for King Gorge Whiting or Baby Snapper, etc

Personally, i don't likethe idea of flying your $1000 toy out to sea with a big string attached, imagine a tangle in the blades?
At least you may be able to wind it back in

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

Being 'Off Shore' would also expose the Drone to some very 'Industrial Strength' winds and while lifting the line and hooks is important, the Drones ability to remain stable in all conditions, either by Gyroscopes/Computer or the operator would be very important.
It would need to be thoroughly waterproofed and bouyant because even if it falls in the drink just a few metres from your boat, its going to take several minutes to retrieve by whatever means and Salt Water as you know invades everything with the speed of light.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

That is exactly why you need to use the expensive DJI drones. They can fly fully autonomous, have collision avoidance, came back and land right in
front of you feet, provided you didn't walk away. No flying skills required. At a speed of 60km/h they are 250m out here in a matter of seconds. You just don't won't your line to get tangled in the reel while it is unspooling at that speed, would suggest to fly a fair bit slower.

For a small fee they offer an insurance. If for any reason they are lost due to a techical fault/error you get a new one. Flight data is tracked through your device like a black box and is required for the claim to prove that you didn't drive it into the ocean with your joystick input.

On second thoughts, the downward facing second camera that is used for it's orientation could show that it was used for carrying fishing tackle. Their insurance policy might not cover that.

A cheaper alternative to DJI has factory built release mechanism and you can set up travel limits according to the length of line. The down side is that lost at sea is not covered by warranty. They do provide extra drop pins in case the fishing line breaks.

The beauty of that is, you can fish with really light gear, yet still target an area that is way passed casting distance.
So a person with a normal car, could drive to a land based fishing spot, with his 4000size reel and modest 2pce 2.5kg rod and be fishing 100m offshore

It will be very interesting how this will play out.

The CASA wants to convict him but it does not look like he was really breaking the rules, except there are weight limits when you need a certain type of drone license. The reports I read do not mention if he had one.
So technically the fisherman is a payload attached to a remote controlled drone and not sitting inside it, so I wonder if CASA covered that?
Maybe the rule about being 30m from people as the line seems shorter, big mistake.

Flying humans at a low height above water is permitted in other countries, not sure about that here.
AFAIK that has something to do with the 'ground' effect but in this case the drone itself would be too high to make use of the ground effect.
Note that the chair is standing in water as it took off.
The pilot is covered in a hazmat suit, so it looks like these guys are prepared for something.

This is becoming such a Nanny over regulated country because every dept and branch of Gubbermint either wants some sort of fee or to control the sheeple.

In NZ they have these large electric torpedo looking remote control Boats that drag lines with Multiple hooks out on them and then come back. They can get a LOT of fish from pics and Vids I have seen.

I believe here in Nanny land they are Illegal too.

Won't be long and you'll need to do a course and have a licence to wipe your arse..... but only allowed after using an inspected and duly authorised ( paid for) shithouse.

    Fully agree.
What is the worst that can happen, he falls in the water and gets wet. VB is rubbish beer anyhow, not a big loss.
Probably smart enough to stay under water and swim away so the drone does not hit him.

People making selfies is far more dangerous, plenty of evidence of that.

The Drones danger seems to be blown out of all proportion and a perception created in the publics mind they are some sort of weapon of terror.
I'm not into Model RC aircraft but I watch a couple of YT channels that are about them and it's pretty plain to me that there isn't much a drone could do these days a cheap model aircraft Couldn't.

On this channel they have put wings on Dunnies and got them to fly and recently turned a full size canoe into a plane. They Built a cargo style plane and were loading the thing with large watermelons and dropping them. Apart from Hover ( which some of these planes can fly so slow they virtually are hovering) there isn't much difference in what you can do with the 2 these days.
The current hysteria seems to paint drones as some evil thing looking for an opportunity to kill people but a plane is still a toy.

They never let an opportunity to regulate something to get a fee out of it go by and if it's something people might get a bit of fun and enjoyment out of, they have to demonise that and dream up twice as many rules and regulations
