    More Fabulous pictures, Learjet.

Good to hear (and see) that the system is functioning again.

I'm still looking for ways to receive Himawari8 on an RTL SDR. There might be a way of doing it using Xrit2pic and GNURadio. The software can be found here.

I've have a very cheap RTL-SDR 2832 USB device and it works fine with GNURadio. The Xrit decoder was written with GOES 16 in mind so may not be fully compatible with Himawari 8, though there is an option to tick Himawari in the xrit decoder setup box. I think GOES is BPSK and Himawari QPSK. You may have to use the loop through cable of a sat receiver to power the LNB to horizontal.

Anyway have a play and see if you guys have any success. I suck at software.
Holy cow......I barely understood a word you said there.....except for "LNB"

But those pictures are truly out of this world.........with results like that, the effort has to be worthwhile.

Thanks for the updates and those fabulous pics.

Now...wonder if Google Translate will be of any assistance

Thanks Dan, glad you like the pics. Even though I've obviously seen full disc images before, playing around with this satellite really gives a sense of wonderment at our amazing planet.

I have traced one of the problems to a weak LNB. Replaced with another, now I have a solid lock. I still suspect the S300 is deaf as the signal is reported as -57dBm at the S300, but -25dBm at the satfinder. Mmmm, that's very fishy.

Anyway, this is a full disc image at midday yesterday. Four of the 14 channels were used to make an RGB image. Image processing by my friend Karol Masztalerz. I'm still learning how to use the software as I have an aversion to reading manuals.

There are flat Earthers all over the globe! Honestly, they get into everything, like ants.

I quite like this image of a gibbous Earth, taken at 4:20pm. I've uploaded a much higher res version to my astrobin album if anyone wants a look at high res.

B5 channel was used for red.
B4 channel was used for green.
Visible channel was used for blue.

Luminance was then overlaid from the visible channel.

This thing has 14 channels so I'm going to have fun figuring out the combinations.

    More beautiful images, Learjet.

I must see what I can do using RTL-SDR, but my C-band LNB has become very noisy so I shall have to try a spare. Trees might also be problem, but 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'.

Thanks Tristen. I ended up swapping out the LNBF for another. This one seems more stable and I have a solid lock now.

These latest images have me gobsmacked. The crescent Earth, like the crescent Moon shows shadow detail like a full phase can't. Panning around the 11K pixel images, I can see shadows under clouds and towering storms. This is looking toward the Indian ocean with cyclone Cilida and the golden Sun reflecting off the water.

Check out the detail this thing can do. This is the Gulf of Carpentaria this morning at 7:30am. Not quite a cyclone yet, but will be by tomorrow.

This is a nice little spy satellite, almost. This is the Gell River forest fire in Tasmania. Shows up well as a bright blue plume. B4/B5/Vis channels used for this composite.

    Awesome stuff!

My 2.3m C-Band dish has been sitting pretty doing nothing for the last 10 years. I was contemplating pulling it down until I saw this post....
Would be great to get it working with RTL SDR!

Cyclone Riley at cat2 poses no thread to the coast, but it makes for nice images.

I thought this was a nice backdrop with the Earth's curve as cyclone Riley heads off to the west. Captured yesterday.

Check this out. Now that the low pressure system has cleared from the gulf which was sitting there for ages, check out the flooding of the Leichardt River! Comparison from January 2 and today February 9. It even shows well in full disc!
