Here's a full disc day / night youtube video taken over 4 days. I'm doing more videos lately.
I'm finding my i5 laptop with 8GB of RAM struggling, so I got my computer mate to help transfer the software over to an i7 desktop with 16GB of RAM. Much better performance.
Are you still around Learjet?
The post above appears to be your last.
I hope that everything is all right with you.
I'm still here! I must admit I haven't checked in much. Blame Facebook!
Actually I've been collecting some fantastic images. Did you guys want to see more?
And I've been meaning to start another thread as I've just got a setup for the geostationary Korean GK-2A. It can be received with an RTL-SDR! The downside is it only has a single IR channel in LRIT. Better than nothing though and a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to setup than Himawari 8 / Jcsat2B.

Super Typhoon Hagibis approaches Japan. Received at 0030UT today.
Guam and the Mariana Islands verses Typhoon Bualoi! Guam is the little island way off to the left. How about that scale! Received at 0500UT today.
A gravity wave, formed by thunderstorms in western Australia. Imaged on the 21st. It was in the news.
The eye of typhoon Halong. The northern hemisphere has given me much to look at this year. I'll be ready for cyclone season when it starts!
Bad fires in NSW over the last couple of days.
I'm running out of work to do so I might do something different and that is getting the Himawari-8 downlink on JaSat 2B at 154 Deg E. I have a 2.3M mesh dish (hope its ok for this, not Solid) I have plenty of Spare DVB -S2 box hanging around, I have a Computer with HDMI parked in my Satellite Room that I used to use for Logging, I have Monitor and a Keyboard so lets see if I can get Jsat 2B at 154 Deg E. First I have to program via new XML files for my Ultimo 4K box as this box controls the Dish for all my Sats then I will fine the one and only CBAND frequency and that is ABC Australia 3831 H, OOOH its Multi Stream so I might have to find Freq for Himawari-8 downlink on JaSat 2B at 154 Deg E which is :::::
Type: DVB-S2
Modulation: QPSK
FEC: 3/5
Roll-off factor: 0.2
Symbol rate: 2,586.148 ksps
Frequency: 4,148.000 MHz (C-band)
Polarization: Linear (JCSAT-2B: horizontal)
Packet Identifier (PID): 1001 (0x3E9)
Because My Ultimo 4K box does not do Multi Stream on ABC Australia it will make it hard to Find JSat 2B @ 154 Deg E but might try the Above Frequencies from the Himawari-8 downlink on JaSat 2B to find this Sat.
I will have to re do my XML file first on the Untimo 4K box and that alone is a big process.

The novra S300D DVB S2 Receiver is expensive to buy.
As yet nobody we know of has found a DVB-S2 STB that will respond to the signal, even in blind scan.
If you have a LNB loop through in the box and an SDR the beacon should be on 0.950625 gigs H and the HRIT signal at 1.002000
All the receiver options are in that new price range or more. There's a couple of DVB cards that should do it that are cheaper, possibly even a 10 Eu one.
But all need the ingestion software that is not much cheaper than the Novra.
There are some other options for Himawari HRIT under development. Don't spend your bucks just yet.

Yes you are between a Rock and a Hard place meaning the Rock is the Receiver about $600 US (others cost More) that's $864 AU + the Expensive shipping from the US another $150 or the Hard Place which is If you use the DVB Cards for the Computer Yep that is Cheaper Option ,Yeah I said, But I did not know the Software was hundreds in US.
I know member Learjet has Borrowed a Novra receiver from a Friend possibly he still using it now and if so he is a good friend but Learjet is in the same boat as most of us "We need a reasonably Price Receiver" so I will wait until a Cheaper option comes up. Keep us informed for this.
Many Thanks hca.

Yes Learjet said he was able to borrow a working receiver and ingestion software system costing 530usd that was superseded by a network option and then purchased the Pacfic Satcom display software. I am surprised he has not responded yesterday which is why I posted much later.
I willing to guess he has not got notification set on this thread.
What makes it even more expensive you can run a script and pull the latest image a almost immediately after transmission every 10 minutes.
Try a post his GK-2A Korean weather satellite thread, I know he has it on notification because we have been bantering on it for a while. Also same data without so much expense.

Correct, without a larger dish GK-2A HRIT is too weak, but I believe it is similar resolution. The lower resolution LRIT is easy to get and decode with just the SDR and could be decoded with out purchase of software.
Himarwari high resolution HRIT on the other hand via JC_Sat is easy to receive but for now a big capital outlay for the Novra, Kencast and Pacific Satcom programs.

Yeah sorry about that. Didn't sub to this thread.
The resolution for Himawaricast is 1km per pixel. It results in 11,000 x 11,000 pixel images, BUT... it's only for B3 (visible) channel an 644nm. All the other 13 channels are lower res 2750 x 2750. However, there is a trick to get colour images at high res. In photoshop, use the B3 channel as the luminance layer to the other channels. Colour data doesn't have to be high res, only luminance. When combined, colour is high res too. Gimp can do the same thing.
I ended up buying a Novra S300D off Ebay as the original Novra became faulty. It lost power out to the LNB and would sometimes just stop working altogether. Ebay had it second hand for like $260 I think it was. So keep an eye out on the second hand market.

Received this image on April 6 earlier this year from Himawaricast. It's always fun seeing the Moon behind the Earth.
