Default vehicle fines/penalties in other states

Just a wondering..... If you get a fine in NSW on one of those double demerit weekends, does that apply if you carry a Vic licence?

My understanding is that you pay the fine but the points that are applied to your licence is what you would have been given if the offence had occurred in the State that the licence is held. The main reason for this is that allowable points on a licence are different in each State so you could be over penalised if points from the offence state apply.

Eg NSW has a licence with 13 demerit points but the ACT only has a 12 point licence so if you loose 4 points in NSW on an ACT licence you are being over penalised if 4 points are taken from your ACT licence - as a NSW 4 point penalty is the same as a 3 point penalty in the ACT you only loose 3 points if on an ACT licence - if the offence is the opposite way round and you lost 3 points in the ACT on a NSW licence, this would mean you loose 4 points on your NSW Licence.

I believe the same applies with other jurisdictions.

I got a $1350 fine and 10 points in NSW once, no points were deducted from the Victorian Driving Licence
    However, the money still hurt.

Not sure if things have changed, that was 12 years ago

If you a licence recognised as a National Heavy Vehicle Licence, the equivalent to HR, HC and above, the points will likely deducted interstate. This will occur even if you are pinned driving a car interstate.

If you have a car/bike licence it is unlikely, even though the ability to ‘share’ points between most states is available.

I am surprised they havent 'equalised' the Penalties for Traffic infringements so that no matter where you are, what you drive, license held and nature of the Penalty no one State misses out on collecting the maximum possible.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Licensing and registration should be nationalised, as should all the road rules. The current situation is a dogs breakfast.

    Found this interesting............

The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

a few minutes grace would be a great thing in a built up area , but i doubt that council will adopt that idea they would lose too much revenue.

When i had an office in Parramatta the parking pigs there were absolute low life assholes. I used to watch them from the window standing next to cars and write out tickets just as the owners were returning. what sort of pathetic low life would do that ? They never gave you any credit if you drove off early!!!

Not really sure about this, but a couple of years ago, when I was out of state (geographically not mentally) I got booked for failing to give way at a stop sign in QLD. The copper seemed to indicate that double demerits may have applied, because when I asked him how many points it would cost me, he said "3 but you are lucky because double demerits starts next week" Turned out not so bad anyway, because he stuffed up my driver's licence number (and the date too), so although I had to pay the fine, the data didn't match up when the infringement notice was handed on to the mob that takes the points off you, so it didn't cost me any points.
