    SUMMARY

You have gone from Android 7 to Android 9
    You have lost Passthrough Audio
You can no longer use NTFS USB hard drives or NAS drives using ext4, the unit has lost support of NTFS.

    More detail here:

This exactly what mine did during me watching something
It also kept all my dodgy non Playstore Apps after the update
It has probably locked in the newer YouTube, meaning more ads!!!

    UPDATE ISSUES

"According to whirlpool forums the update has disabled support for NTFS.
FAT32 drives will still work fine, which is ridiculous due to the file size limit.
It forced an update and it broke passthrough
Updates are causing crashing and freezing. It requires the box to be hard-reset. Very annoying.
Ethernet gets disconnected now if you use a VPN now too"

Heaps of people getting a refund for the now crippled box
Vodafone have agreed to Refund anyone with a VTV in store.

It also wants you to Update your remote control (for what reason i have no idea, i have not done it)
From reading it seems the Auto Firmware and Android update could not be turned off.... Meaning you can no avoid it.

    UPDATE

My Volume adjustment on WIN HD was solved within the Sound setting of Android 9 (No Surround Sound option ticked, can now use R.C. Volume to adjust volume)
New Layout is great, i like the way my most used Apps are shown in Vertical format, with Horizontal jogging through content.
MPEG2 and MPEG4 decoding has been greatly improved, no stutter. (That in my view was its biggest let down)
    Box in general operates faster

The NTFS USB drive issue, isn't a problem to me, i dont use it

The NTFS USB drive issue, isn't a problem to me, i dont use it

Someone needs to make a custom rom and root it so we can get rid of the limitations, otherwise i still like how it works.

Default Vodafone TV - Long Term review

In short, i'm so impressed with this little unit, i've just ordered another 4 on top of the 2 i just ordered and installed.
I'm also suggesting them for many customers that have "Non Smart TVs', "First iteration Smart TVs", or TV's like the Sony Bravia with known issues of losing saved DVB-T channels.

    * FTA TV tuner (can record to USB)
    * Inbuilt ChromeCast (has been working great with Kayo)
    * Quality bluetooth remote (dedicated app buttons / tactile buttons / play and pause / numeric pad etc)
    * Ethernet + WiFi
    * 2 year local warranty

    Major Updates

    Firmware: Android P M2.3.10 Release

I'm so happy with this new firmware and Android Version
It has really transformed this box
I know i have previous commented it wasn't a great update, i'm not sure if they made further update improvements, but it works great

You now have a proper Android TV experience, with DVB-T2 tuner so well integrated.

I rate it over my trusty PVR U5 now
    It's become a dinosaur

The set up process is so easy, your grandmother could do it
Everything is code based to sync with your Android Phone or Google Account

The best thing i'm liking about the new firmware is the "Live Channels" app
You can scan your local DVB-T2 TV channels, then add as many IPTV channel lists as you like, all in the same easy to use format.
(granted, i'm still learning about Live Channels and what can be achieved)
Sky 1 HD and Sky 2 HD look great running on this box.

    Netflix - 4K
    YouTube - 4K
    Plex - 4K
SBS and iView work with the official Apps (very good experience)

The update now provides a full official Chromecast experience too
It sits running 24/7 in the background, cast anything from your phone or tablet to the whichever Vodafone TV unit in your house you choose.

    It is fast and snappy
Still runs non official apps, sideload, allow unknown sources, off you go.

The completely customisable Home Screen is the best
Have all your subscribed media shown to you how ever you like (Recommended, Subscriptions, etc etc)

    The bonus

The combination Bluetooth and IR remote control
You can hide the unit anywhere, i have one that runs on a 15m HDMI cable and unit is buried deep in cupboard
Other units are Velcro'd behind the TV

The BT remote works from 50 meters+ away, while in your pocket
(I walked up the street and keeped turning up the volume so i could hear it, no idea how far i could have gone, but i estimate i was 50 meters away, with no connection loss... Probably could have gone further)

Just saw the Nvidia Shield on Special for $350 + $6 delivery
These are $72 with Free Delivery

For content playing, i have no idea why you'd want more?
If you are a gamer, i can't really comment, i don't play games, but imagine if you were into games, you'd have a game console right?
Or if you want the latest Dolby Atoms suckme off encoding, maybe look elsewhere.

    Note:

The units still come with Android 7.1 pre installed
If you don't wish to update to Android 9 or Andriod P as they call it, install the box with no Internet connection, then go in and disable updates.
I run one of these new boxes for a few days on Android 7.1, but i love the features of the new firmware so much, i just ended up updating it to Android P.

I have so many customers willing to throw away perfectly good $5000+ TVs in the day because they are not "Smart" or don't get MPEG4
For $72 you can make a very capable 1080p Smart TV for the shed, workshop, lounge, study..... or just because you're on a budget
The bonus with this is, back then, 1080p Sony Bravia XBR TV's came with brilliant forward facing speakers (2 sound bars either side of the TV)

It should do atmos etc via pass through.

    The shield is $250....
The pro 'gaming' version is more expensive.

Only negative with the shield, along with all Android boxes, is trying to find a media player that plays everything properly.

For that I still have to use the player in my lg TV.

I have been looking for a DVB-T2 plus android all in one for quite a while so this may be the solution and at a brilliant price.

I know some of you have tested it with you tube, VLC etc but how stable is it with IPTV Apps like IPTV s,marters or Perfect player?
Can somebody give any feed back on these? Ive tried too many androids and have found anything under $140 fails but to have a decent IPTV player with DVB-T is my holy grail.

I have a Nvidia Shield, a Xiaomi Mi box and Vodafone TV box.
Obviously the shield is 10/10 - the Rolls Royce of Android TV boxes.
But for $72 the Vodafone box does pretty much the same with added bonus
    of Free to air TV.
Its not as smooth response as Shield, but consider that you can buy 5 Vodafone boxes or 1 Shield box.
Shield is better for games if you in to that and running emulators.
In my case the Shield is important as I have 9.1 Receiver in a dedicated theatre room setup and my movies are generally
7.1 Dolby Atmos or DTS sound. I don't think any other TV box can handle Atmos 7.1 and the 2020 model has Dolby Vision.

I think the Vodafone & Mi box will play up to Dolby, DTS, & Atmos 5.1 sound via pass through turned on.
I wouldn't hesitate buying one for $72. All works just as well as shield but remote control response not as quick,
    slightly sluggish.
The Mi box 3 is a few years old now and starting to play up. Sometimes rebooting when browsing youtube,
    and freezes.
Therefore Vodafone TV is next best thing to Shield based on price.

I've been happy with my Xiaomi Mi Box. I've got 2 of them (kids had to have one). I've been thinking of this vodaphone box because of the terrestrial.

Works better than my $400 Android Box
But it's not the price that makes the difference

I did use Archos player, but they need to do an update (after Android system update) because now it doesn't start up.
So now I use Nova Video player. It looks same as Archos anyway.
You need to go into settings and set up correct pass through mode.
It also has a setting to play via other players - you can choose.
Try all and see which works best.
Direct via Kodi should play everything too.

    Yes, all can be loaded.
Boxes that run Official Google Android TV -ATV have a limited Playstore.
Therefore you must sideload some apps.
You will see many methods used on youtube tutorials.
    I say ditch those.
For me the easiest thing to do is install a file manage/explorer on your box.
Then download from computer apks you want and copy to USB stick.
The file manager will allow the apks to be installed to your tv box.
You should also get sideload launcher from playstore.
This will show all your installed apps. They may not show up in the system menu.
To show on the menu bar, you must download "Tv App Repo_v1.1.4" (google search)
Install this to box via a USB stick.
With this app installed you can create shortcuts of your sideloaded apps to your menu bar.
    Hope that helps.

Didn't have a real good reason to get one of these as I have my Mi Box for streaming but my trusty UltraPlus 9200 has an issue so I don't have a DVB-T PVR!! So Just ordered. Should have done so earlier in the week so I'd have something to play with on the weekend.
