Default IMac 27 OSX Help please

I am in need of advice please from the Austech Gurus
My son in his wisdom has corrupted the OS on his Imac by trying to put Mohave (or whatever its called) on and now we cant seem to restore or do any thing .(was told we need a bootable USB to fix) But this requires another Mac to create .
I have the High Sierra OSX on thumbdrive but need to make it bootable.(if that makes any sense)
Can any one here give me some advice on how to repair it or what to do next
Hes lost without it and Im a Pc person not a Apple person.
    Thanks in advance .

Well, here it is a month later and no update from the OP.

    Has the problem been resolved?

    Ouch!

For the Future I would suggest to use Time Machine right now, on an external hard drive of course.
Super easy re-install if you need to swap the HD or clone the machine.

I'm fairly certain that internet recovery would have worked well in this scenario.

    Command (⌘) – Option (⌥) – R

It'll then have you select a wireless network and begin the process of downloading and re-installing OSX.
