    Default The Bunnings Onion

Sent to my daughters phone this morning...........

    Ode To A Bunnings Onion

    I am a Bunnings Onion,
my life was once quite grand.
I'd get to look at everything
as you held me in your hand

    Looking out the drivers window
or at the people you would greet.
    All these scenes unfolded
    up upon my sausage seat.

    Sometimes I'd be blinded,
    smothered by sauce so red.
Or a squeeze of yellow mustard
soaked up by that fresh white bread.

But now my lifes just not as good
    as it used to be.
For my view is now restricted
by that snag on top of me.

And why you ask have things so changed,
    why did my status drop?
It's all because some careless bloke
trod on me and went flop!

    So I'll fade into obscurity
    beneath that lovely meat.
Now that Bunnings changed the way
    we eat our weekend treat.

So please do not forget me
now that I'm down out of the way.
And now and then lift up that snag
    and smile and say gdday!

I'll still be just as tasty,
    so caramelled and so rich.
I'm just no longer so important
    since becoming Bunnings PC bitch!
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

I think you guys get ripped off on your side of the country going by that ode and someone on the radio who said bunnings snags are in bread over east and in rolls here in the west? Is that true? Always had a roll in the west and bread would not do it for me...

A Bunnings “sausage and onion in a roll” is just not right!!!

    mkhannah,

Yep... sausage in bread over this side.

How much do they charge in the west for sausage in a roll?

Sausage with/without onion is $2.50 in the east.

Same price here... $2.50. I might have two a year. I'm just surprised that it's been elevated to a national cultural icon thanks to oniongate, yet they are served with bread vs rolls at either side of the country.

They vary with each Fund Raiser manning it.
Mostly bread at the local. Buns occasionally. The sausages used also varies, thick or thin.
Sometimes you get one slice of bread and then two.
In the case of two, onions on the bottom automatically become on top when you pick it up and invert to take a bite.

Talk about a storm in a tea cup.

Only ever seen onion in bread here (oh! don't forget the sanger). I've been to just about every Bunnings store on the North side of the city.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Its called a Sausage SANDWICH which implies a 'Sausage on SLICE of Bread !!!! and the purchaser has the option to add onion and choose from a variety of sauce.

You can have it on a bread roll, a croissant, 2 Gum Leaves or yesterdays handbill of Political promises, but to qualify as a Bunnings Sausage SANGER, its a Snag on a slice of plain or buttered bread.......
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Always known as the sausage sizzle here, and always a bun.

Obviously we are somewhat more refined over on the better half of our great land. Enjoy your bread.

I have always avoided the sausage sizzle stand at Bunnings but I do enjoy caramelised onions.
Maybe I should ask for a pure "Onion Sizzle" to do justice to the Bunnings Onion that the author of that ode is so concerend about.
Maybe give them a print out of that ode as an explanation why.

I know there would be a bit of lard on them but I am not that fussy. At worst the Diarrhea will be knocking 2 hours later but by then I will be home.

Funny you should say that.....had lunch today with family at the newly opened Riverton hotel and they have a special for $15 every day with a middy. Thursday was, wait for it, a sausage sandwich. And I said exactly what you said

A Sausage Sandwich? Over here we call it a spit roast, that’s where the girl gets down on all fours and the guys..... maybe that’s something else I’m thinking of

I'm sure the local community group of the week would make a hell of a lot more $$$ outside Bunnings if they took your approach to a sausage sandwich....

This afternoon at the local Bunnings it was business as usual....onions on top.

Some woman mentioned it to them and they all started laughing....apparently they were told to just forget it.
