This is what happens when just part of an EV ( tesla) battery burns.
Pretty scary and looks much harder to extinguish than a Petrol or Diesel fire. This was only 2 packs from a 16 pack Tesla battery. The amount of burning fall out and projectiles is incredible and sobering.
Look Here -> |
Hardly... More like a couple of back yarders fooling around with shit they don't understand
Can hardly include the words Tesla in this
Risking their workshop and damaging a lot of clients cars
What morons
EV Batteries come in a metal case, they have an emergency isolator (which may be hard to get to in some cases)
But all commercial EV's have cells that are fully enclosed in a metal case, which should minimise available oxygen and prevent flying cells.

Yeah not quite. The guys that did it are quite well know for rebuilding Teslas and know a hell of a lot about them. Clearly it's you who does not understand their level of knowledge and experience. In any case, it was a simple job of putting in a couple of battery packs to replace some Lead acids. Not rocket science and certainly well within their skill level of what they have done before. The batteries were just sitting there and spontaneously erupted for no valid reason.
Oh god no! Wouldn't want to upset the Koolaide Drinking Cult member fanbois who actually think Tesla and all it does and says is flawless, infallible and more perfect than God would we?Can hardly include the words Tesla in this
They will bore the living shit out of us with every far fetched moronic excuse and spin doctored load of crap to maintain the illusion of perfection of the Tesla cult they so fanatically worship.
Except it was a Tesla battery pack. An would behave the exact same way if it were to catch fire in a Tesla car from where it originated. Of which there have been numerous examples of already including a driver being trapped and burnt to death in a TESLA.
I agree. That Tesla pack put people and a great amount of property at risk. The way the pack burned shooting flaming and flying burning celss everywhere was shocking and a huge risk to everything in a considerable area around it.Risking their workshop and damaging a lot of clients cars
Because they used a Tesla battery pack instead of sticking to the lead acid batteries? Well, I don't think moron is the right word but I bet they won't make the same mistake again of trusting these TESLA battery packs to be safe and trustworthy. The vehicle was not operating nor had been for some time. the batterys just caught fire for no foreseeable reason. Same as they could have in a car. What morons
That's an understatement. Do you even have any idea where the isolator is on ANY EV or the fact you need to take panels out, often with tools to get to them and an isolator would do no good at all for a burning pack, it only isolated it from the load being the vehicle. You often say such strange things that a person could well be lead to think you didn't have the first clue what you were talking about.EV Batteries come in a metal case, they have an emergency isolator (which may be hard to get to in some cases)
Oxygen?? Oh dear, you really do have no idea about these batteries do you? Not a clue. But all commercial EV's have cells that are fully enclosed in a metal case, would should minimise available oxygen and prevent flying cells.
Yes, the case would hopefully prevent the cells flying round, if it were intact, but then again, on a Tesla, so would the metal floor of the vehicle which they sit under. The case may also give people a bit more time to escape the vehicle before the same case acts to concentrate the heat and make the cells bur more quickly and Violently. I gues like these guys, most people wouldn't think that a battery pack from a vehicle like a TESLA could just be sitting there doing nothing one minute then explode in a spontaneous fireworks show the next.
Might be best if Tesla owners kept their Vehicles outside or in a metal shed with no other property. You can't even fit I fire suppression system because these things would still burn the same way even if you had a Halon or Co2 mega dollar system.
Unfortunately for at least one documented Tesla driver whom was trapped in the vehicle after an accident, the case wasn't enough to contain the burning batttery pack and he was burned to death in his Tesla before he could be rescued. You can read plenty of accounts of that on the net.

Its doesn't even look like an Edit, he grabs the charge lead plug and pulls it apart, then runs!
He also explains he was charging with No BMS.... Not cooled either.
What more needs to be said... ??
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
Seems on par with what happened next.......
EDIT: Do a little bit of digging and you will read exactly what they had done to cause the over charge. Very poor form indeed.
Maybe the Video should have been titled "Why Telsa don't want backyard mechanics trying to work on their products"
1. No Training
2. No BMS when charging
3. No proper Lipo Charger
4. Telsa products used outside of design parameters
5. Telsa Batteries used without cooling system
6. Telsa Batteries used without Safety Features connected
Look at the bomb we made, now we cant put it out
Look at the lives and personal safety we risked for this video.....
Oh yeah.... But its not our fault... Its Teslas.

Once again with the the cult fanatacism.
No one blamed Tesla, merely pointed out it was a Tesla pack, which it was, and what Happened when they went they burned such as what could happen in an accident. Sure I threw in a bit of stirring because some are so damn predictable and easy to set off anytime Tesla are mentioned. It's like pressing a button and watching them dance.
This could happen and pose the same problems when any similar type EV pack went up and for those that aren't busting a gut to defend their hero worshiped cult, would see the bigger picture in the difficulty and danger of these type of fires in the future. It's a new problem EV's will bring to the world and rescue services will have to deal with.
Being charged or not, failures in equipment will happen ( except with Tesla gear of course because as we all know they have better than god like infallibility) and so this problem will occur. Every bit of equipment has safety features and there will always be some failure at some time... like exploding water heaters.
Imagine one of these going off at a crowded charging station in the future. The intensity of the fire and the speed with which it will engulf the vehicle when it is held in the oven like confines of the casing will be substantial. Anyone things It can't/ wont happen is an idiot plain and simple. Refueling Fires happen now, in the future they will be a different type and another problem to deal with. And if anyone things a bad cell can't cause this problem to happen when unattended..... good luck with that.
People need to take off the Rose coloured blinkers and lay off the Tesla Koolaide. The one eyed cult worship is getting laughable and boring. The hypocrisy is something else again.
I can just see all the BS when Tesla do go down. will be everyone elses fault and nothing to do with the endless broken promises, delays, mismanagement, poor financial control, the unhinged leader of the circus or any of the other myriad of reasons that can be seen happening every day. In the eyes of the soft of heart and head whom have replaced their former religion with Tesla, they will be martyrs and have still never done anything wrong.
What is Tesla Koolaide? Is this made by the same company that makes cars?
Lthim
LiIon Batts have thermal runaway probs. where electrolyte ignites,. temps can reach 700C. Can be caused by overcharge, over discharge,. physical damage and may occur hours later. Just read a tech book about what companies have tried different materials for anodes, cathodes, electrolytes, flame retardants, prob still there. Safest are LiFePo4 which needs int temp of 600C to ignite. Can be treated almost like lead acid Batts.

Just for a giggle i just Googled "charging no BMS".
There are many articles & videos on how to do it, "safely". WTF.
I just wouldn't take that shortcut, having seen many videos on battery fires.

Here is a fun weekend project to do with your kid, but how disappointing they couldn't get it to explode:
The same guy, obviously on the same mental level as our Tesla hater(I have blocked because I already know his repetitive dribble but I am sure he will love this) telling us why Teslas are so dangerous and you must get rid of them:
Enjoy
... I do fully agree to all the comments below that video though on the actual YT link:
