    Default Stepper size quiz

Driving home the other day and spied a photocopier on the footpath in pieces. Couldn't refuse a look in.
Not much worth scavenging from it but I did pick up a stepper motor.
    It's a 6 wire nema 23, 42mm long and a 1/4" shaft. Label says STP-59D1030, 1.8deg/step, 1.3ohm ... Never thought to look at the copier brand.
    Internet searches revealed nothing.

Would anybody care to guess the torque figures of it ?

The prefix STP suggests that it is manufactured by SureStep

I glanced at a SureStep listing but could not see it listed.

I found the motor on google from some seller but not much in the way of specs.
It seems it's manufacturer is called Shinano Kenshi and it's made specific for the job.
I'd use it for my upcoming CNC build if I knew more about it.

    Why don't you test it.

1/. Feed some pulses into the unit and see how much torque it develops.

Have a look at cnczone for ideas.

2/. Perhaps retrace your route to where you found it in order to see if the rest of the unit you salvaged it from is still there.

3/. Compare the characteristics you quoted in your first post with those of similar units (catalogues etc.) to get an idea of its, as yet, unknown vital statistics.

Um yeah I can't test it yet.
My stepper drivers don't arrive until next week.

Finally got the chance to try it today.
I connected it to a rig meant for a smaller stepper running at 400mA and found when I grab knob I put on the shaft it misses steps, so I guess it will run a lot more current. I just don't know how much is max.
