Default NASA InSight Lander Touches Down

Happened this morning.....another winner in the don't crash stakes....

The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

It's always good when they don't crash.

I dunno. The way things are going, 100 years from now we may be a pile of glowing ashes. Today is fine as far as I'm concerned.

I reckon I was born just right, I'm just aging way too quickly! I wanna see the next 100 or so years.

Not sure I'd call this fcked up mess fine, but I see your point.
When I see things like this lander on another planet I imagine the possible potential of human beings, we could probably do near anything if only we could get along.
Sadly though, a considerable number of the world's population should probably still be sleeping in trees.

I'd like to come back a thousand years from now to have a look around, just to see which way things went, regardless of the outcome it'd be an eye opener for sure.

I dunno, it all still seems like a 100 years away before any colonising attempt looks practically feasible at the speed things are moving.
I experienced the 1960s as a kid and today nothing in relation to space travel, not even remotely, is exciting as it was back then.
The moon lander tech we had in the late 60's could have surely been further developed for Mars landers already back then, had there not been the Cold war, Vietnam, and all that deplorable shit.
Nothing has changed today and our leaders are still doing their worst, while the only difference seems that they are also fighting their own people.

We do have Elon Musk, who may have initiated a rebirth of the idea of colonisation. Just like the EV, many will see money in this and perhaps we will get a big boost from the private sector.

Where this all leads is obvious. The rich and famous and most important those who press the red buttons will be able to hop onto a space pod and escape to Mars and leave the mess they created behind so they can start a new mess on a different planet.

The greatest danger is that the tolerance level to press that button will drop considerably once such colonies exist.

I have had the idea long before watching Black Mirror to download my consciousness into a computerised offline memory system only to upload it into a biosynthetic entity once they become available so I can see what has happened 100 years or so after I die.

Problem is who is going to keep my data safe and upload it for me.

No, I was thinking more in the style of these guys for storage of my brain on their servers under a 1000 meters of granite, an extra layer of protection
