Question Upgrade path for Bosh solution 16 to mobile SMS zone reporting.

    Hey all,

I have the NBN coming sooner or later and need to upgrade my system as it's on the old copper system back to my monitoring company.

After ringing around today I have come to the conclusion that I am going to self monitor as the prices for the alarm company to do it are twice what my old service was.

What I would really like is an add on to my existing system or if not available an upgrade path to something that will SMS me with the zone that has gone off.

Don't really want a general alarm call as I have had a few false alarms over the years with it just being the one zone. I usually ignore them as it's only multiples I am really concerned about.

Is there anything around that will do that ?

Would suggest to put in a Solution 2000/3000 with IP module for App control and monitoring.

If you don't want to upgrade the monitoring then the other option is to upgrade the alarm, like what is suggested above.

    Great... I will then.
What components do I need ?
Will it send individual zone alarm SMS's ?

Well, I have found stuff on ebay. Pretty dang cheap.

edit: err .. no perhaps this one ?

Will this do what I want ?

    more edits:
Ok. More sniffing around has relieved this.

Personally I don't like that App idea. I have found in the past that apps often break with new updates of the phone operating system. This kind of locks you into that universe apple or android.
What I would really like it to do is just send an SMS saying which zones are triggered. Makes it slightly more future proof in my opinion. There must be something around that can do that surely ?

    even more editing.
Kind of amazing what some installers say to you.
Rang a company here in Perth. Told them what I wanted and got told "we can do it but it's going to cost you $25 a month for us to monitor it." when I explained that I wanted to do it myself was told "We don't want to play that game".
Guess what. No install business from me. What is is about alarm suppliers ?

    Anyway .. enough of that.
Rang another company and was told that they could do it for me with a 6000 panel and this unit.

    Only 3G ... err.

I don't mind paying a reasonable premium for supply and install. Reasonable being the key word.

Right. have figured out a few more things.
Apparently the latest NESS systems do voice prompts out. So, given that if I put a NES unit on my solution 16 unit all I would hear would be the DTMF tones that would be not of much use. I would need to upgrade to a NES panel with voice prompts out.
Plug in a NES 3G mobile unit then the panel would ring me and let me know what was going on.

Any installers in Perth that can put this in ? I will move the solution 16 to cover my shed as it does not need to be monitored remotely.

Ok... more digging has relieved this cm101B voice module for the solution 6000.
Guessing that that would solve the tones problem above.

    • Zone and area names can be customised
    • Eliminates domestic reporting ambiguity – receive alarm information by voice on any phone
Guessing here .. but that and a CM744B GSM/GPRS 3G plugon module would do the job.

The Bosch 6000 can send app notifications, sms, and email notifications at the same time. You have to supply your own SIM card at this point and there is a monthly subscription for the App use. There are people actively maintaining the service, hence the monthly fee.

As I said .. I don't want an app. Actively maintaining what exactly ?
The Bosch can't send an SMS without extra, optional parts either can it.

Well, it seems that the solution 6000 with the CM744B module is all I need.
Confirmed with Bosch that that will work without having to have a subscription to a site like myalarm.
    Mission complete.
    Hope this helps someone else.

The cheapest option if you are going to Self Monitor would be to simply have a Permaconn installed to your current existing system (Approx $300+GST Installed) then simply find a monitoring Centre that offers SMS monitoring as an option the signals will go through to there monitoring centre and the monitoring software will automatically SMS you. Plenty of them offer this for as little as $10 Per month no more to pay once the Permaconn is installed. If you need more information feel free to inbox me.

    For what ?
Getting an alarm monitored by a central monitoring station is of NO value to me.

    Don't need it.
    Don't want it.

In fact. Now that I have seen the Ness alarms I think Bosch is overkill for what I want also. The Ness panels seem to have all the functionality required built right it.
    Voice included.

It's true that Bosch is very expandable ... but it's only really of use if you need that. I don't.

Think I am now looking at a Ness panel. With self monitored SMS's and more importantly NO app which gets broken.

    Default Inner Range T4000

An option you might consider is the Inner Range T4000.
Plugs straight onto the Solution 16 dialler port (Or almost any other panel or that matter)
Your installer can then set you up for Self-Monitoring, for a monthly subscription.
It is via an App/Email, not SMS.
    SMS is so 90's.

You can also use the SkyCommand App to Arm/Disarm via Keyswitch

(Disclaimer: I work for Inner Range)

    SMS is so 90's ?
You are kidding right. You obviously don't have teen's.
    I have my solution.
No need for any further suggestions.

P.S. Alarm company monitoring is so 70's

P.P.S. I understand there are certain cases for pro alarm monitoring , ie: businesses etc .. but not for little old me.
