    Default Car A/C smells

    Hi,hope you can help.
    My wife's Toyota Corolla"s air condition smells bad. It's a 2001 model,70000 kms.
I doesn't matter if its on recirculating or fresh air.
    It works great.Nice cool.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure something hasn't just crawled in there and died?
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I'd check the A/C drain line for blockages,
Once a year I run the car A/C, fan on, fresh air selection, spray glen20 into the air intakes below the windscreen,
    DIY dealership A/C service

Have you checked if it has a cabin air filter?

The evaporator for the air conditioner gets cold, hence water condenses on it when the air conditioner is in use. When the car gets parked, all that moisture causes mold to form.

I’ve always turned the air conditioner and recirculate function off, but left the fan running for a few minutes before I reach my destination. This gives the evoporator a chance to warm up and dry out before the car is parked.

I’ve never had problems with stinky air con in any of my cars.

If it hasn't been done since 2001, please find the right cabin air filter for your model and replace it:

This should be done alone for heath reasons but I am fairly sure that should also solve the smell issue, unless there is really some dead rodent or reptile stuck in there.

You/she would know if the condensation water flow is blocked as it would be wet on the floor/carpet and not dripping under the car as it should be after using the aircon.
