You guys and your win10 updates and all that trouble to emulate a C64
Just use a real Commodore 64
Update: A deletion of features that work well and ain't broke but are deemed outdated in order to add things that are up to date and broken.
Compatibility: A word soon to be deleted from our dictionaries as it is outdated.
Humans: Entities that are not only outdated but broken... AI-self-learning-update-error...terminate...terminate...
Just out of curiosity Loopy, why won't you try Linux?
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I ended up using this :
It gave me the option to keep files and apps during install.
It worked well too. My computer is working well again now and didn't lose anything.
Updates are fixed I think.
PS Yes all fixed.

ditto, but with Win10.
I use Windows so seldom now that I really can't help ppl with all their Win10 problems anymore.
I just tell them to do a fresh install and go away.
...and strangely that works
BTW I still have a working C64 and the guts from another one, but I am never going to sell.

Would like that but they're going for too much money.
I owned 3 of them til around 20 years ago. I had the printer , disk drive, tape, joystick and heaps of disks and cartridges. Had an set originally purchased in the 80's and gained the other 2 keyboards from garage sales etc.. I spent so much time on it I could program it backwards. For one project I made a device around 2 foot square consisting of a piece of pineboard with some motors and optical sensors from an old vcr player rigged up with 1/4" threaded rod to automatically drill pcb's for me, didn't know back then I'd have the beginnings of a 3d printer did I ?
Sadly, when we moved house, my wife and boys did some of the moving while I was at work and my boys put them in the trailer heading to the dump.
PS 1/4" rod was ideal because it's 20tpi. 2 turns of the rod is 1/10th of an inch which is the correct placement for chip legs.

I used them(heavily modified) to build vending machines back in the 80's. Actually the C16 but I used a few 64s later as well.
I probably designed the first wireless data transfer for them although the data transfer was actually hooked up to cable TV systems in hospitals and hotels. There was a patent on this but in the name of the business that run the systems even though I 'invented' it.
I was only contracted.
The system had to pass the extremely strict German Radio Interference regulations, which considering I had no access to a spectrum analyser was a nice challenge.
The systems were quite reliable until we switched to the more futuristic Sinclair QL which turned out to be a disaster(typically British) until we redesigned it with our own motherboard.

I updated my computer recently and started using windows 10 only for the first time and found that as with the previous operating systems Windows Updates are the major cause of problems.
I use Macrium Reflect 7 free version ( there are plenty of others) and simply image the drive when everything is good
C drive is a small partition and I dont store any data on it eg photos, docs or emails, so its only about 35gb and takes about 10 minutes to restore'
If I am having a certain problem and windows 10 can be quite weird its just better to go back to a good image as the windows restore doesnt always work
I still play C64 "Boulder Dash the Collection" I use Bluestacks on windows 10 and its as good as the original
