    Default FTTN and Alarm Systems

Hi, I was told that if you have FTTP then you can just connect alarm diallers into the phone port on the NBN modem. However, on doing some reading, can I confirm if this connection would work with FTTN?? I believe it doesnt work with FTTN? Does anyone know?

I have connected some to FTTN and it worked. But would not be sure of it's reliability. If it is monitored to a control centre best to use a GPRS unit.

With both FTTP and FTTN an alarm uses the phone port on the modem however, if you lose power to the modem, or if the internet connection goes down, your alarm will not be able to dial out.

In both cases you'd need battery backup for the modem.

But does the Node box out on the street have backup power?

FTTN uses VoIP, which would be even less reliable than the UNI-V port from an FTTP connection.
As @Secure said, you'd be better off using a mobile communicator instead.
The T4000 from Inner Range has Dual SIM +Ethernet options, & connections to the panel ti accept the panel events to send them either to the monitoring station or to your phone via the SkyCommand App.
It also can be powered by the alarm panel itself, so it's backed up by the alarm's battery too

*Disclaimer: I work for Inner Range. *
