Look to see if Drivers are available for Windows 7 for youre model first. Some new programs wont work on Win 7, depends on what u are doing ?
Here is the deal.... I have a rebuilt dell laptop with windows 10 installed. I am not much of a fan windows 10 at all. So, my question is would it be better to install W7 on it ?

My feeling is that if Windows 10 is running, Windows 7 will also.
But....I would install Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 7.
I have it installed on a Dell Latitude E6500 note book computer and it is stable and runs all the programs that I want to.
It would have very helpful if you had stated which model computer you have.

Not a fan of 10 either but laptops are tricky these day with power/battery management, suspend, mobile graphics, UEFI with no external/legacy boot options, etc
and if it is just for browsing/socialmedia/multimedia applications, dont bother changing it.
However I experience a lot more difficulties getting specialised software that can't be replaced to run on 10.
As for newer software not working on 7 including the latest games, never seen that up to now.
That might be an issue for people who use those metro apps, which I personally find pointless datamining crap and of course can't run on 7 luckily.
So unless Dell provides the original(beware of fake websites) drivers for your exact model in 7, I would leave it be.
If it does have them and you feel the need then go for it.

Could you explain why?
I would still see Win10 the better option than Win8 because I can get it to behave like 7.
Win8 is the most annoying restricted setup M$ ever did. I am aware of third party applications that fixes it up a bit but they are bandaids.
If you want to use the metro apps then 10 combines both worlds far better.

i tried win10 and went straight back to win 7 , i have never had an issue with
win7 and everything i need runs perfectly with it.
W10 runs fine for me on my office pcs and laptops, but I'd run 7 on an older computer.....
Im running 7 on an older netbook.

Of all of the versions of Windwoes out there, up until January This year, I would have said W10 is better than 7. Now I would suggest that you forego M$ all together and move over to . Way more stable than anything M$ has ever produced and updates happen only when you say so and rarely take more than a couple of minutes, and, even more rarely require a restart at the end of them.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I have run W7 on D630 for years it came with Vista and I used the vista drivers for the 7 drivers I wasn't able to find

An XP Machine
Amazing that Win10 runs but Dell did some good stuff back then.
...and no UEFI mess. That would be a great candidate for triple boot to me:
Install WinXP first, then WIN7 on a second partition keeping XP, and finally on a third partition Ubuntu(Dells love it) that gives you a boot menu to load all three.
You will have a very versatile machine to let you do all kinds of specialties

i would check how much ram is installed,it might need increasing to run win10 most laptops are slow without a ram increase
There's a big difference between Win 8 and 8.1. Many of Win 8's issues were sorted in 8.1. Win 8.1 is almost what Win 7 was to Vista. Win 8.1 was also more the template they used to refine to Win 10 eventually.
Win 8.1 is a nice but underrated OS. Everyone was waiting for 10 to arrive and many skipped 8.1 because they thought it would be like 8.
8.1 is great for other peoples computers that are a bit low spec
especially without a ssd, 10 can be more trouble than its worth on them
& the constant updates, bloatware, its just time consuming
8 however has a few extra bits than 7, but you can still flick some switches to keep things real
i just updated to latest 7, 8 & 10 with updates to least nov this yr
will keep me happy for a bit.

Ok, I was thinking that 10 is causing some issues. Computer runs fast with 10 on it, ram has been upgraded. I do want to go to W7, but looking for a good spot to get it. Ive seen it on ebay, but I do not trust all those sellers on there. If anyone has ideas that would be great.
A delayed reply, but better late than never.
I have been a beta tester for Microsoft for a number of years now.
Yes, Windows was more than a little buggy in the past but the release of v.8.1, and then the major update referred to as Windows 8.1 Update 1, cured most if not all of the problems experienced by users of earlier releases.
I continue to use Windows 8.1 Update 1 on several machines to this day and find it satisfactory for all my Windows requirements.
I also have and use an Apple tower, which runs OS X El Capitan v.10.11.8. This is used on a day-to-day basis for those applications that lack a Windows equivalent.
Edit:
I forgot to add that I also have one computer running Windows 10, but the constant slow booting and power down due to the incessant flow of updates is extremely frustrating. All-in-all, using Windows 10 is like pain in the proverbial, for me.
I look after the computer needs of a local business (multiple computers) and a few private users and have 'downgraded' all their machines to Windows 8.1 Update 1 for the reasons outlined above.

Yeah, it's difficult. The only way I've been able to go back to 7 from 10 in the past is using the recovery partition (or Q drive) on my Lenovo machine (it originally came with 7 Professional). Even then you have to create (a) boot disc(s) from it first, because it doesn't seem to want to load the recovery partition in the normal manner upon startup (e.g. pressing F11 options).
I will tell my son to try to upgrade his Wacom device that runs only Win8. He uses it offline and I had to install third party party applications to make it halfway usable.
I only have Win10 on devices that came with it and ONLY use them offline too. I can get a really small footprint with Win10 when I totally clean out all the rubbish and compress it. This is great for the small SSDs they have.
