I have a Harmony 650, been using it for a few years. No complaints, even the missus can use it.

I dont think you can go wrong with a Harmony, they are the leaders in the Universal remote field and I have never come across anyone with issues. I set mine up plugged in to the computer, loaded 4 different devices on it and haven't had to touch it since.

Even their cheapies are good, I bought one a few years back just out of interest. I ended up giving it to mate who still uses it.

Edit : Interesting to see the 650 is still current , the one my mate had is the 350, also still being sold.

That Elite is a serious bit of kit isnt it ?

I couldn't justify the price personally, but there isn't much it doesn't do when you add it all up.

+1 to the Harmony 650. Onto my second one now as the kids wore out the first. Beats the hell out of multiple RCs.
For the price it is unbeatable and even my mother-in-law can use it. I've set up macros for many activities and am yet to find a device is does not support (even Apple TV works).
The Elite is overkill unless you have a very complex AV system.

+2 for the Harmony 650. I use it for the TV, soundbar, Mi Box and DVD without issue. Have set them up for family members to use them with Foxtel as well, also without issue. A good bit of kit for the price.

Ironically with our latest smart TV, the universal remote is not required. All functions of the Mi box (Netflix, etc) are vi the TV, and the soundbar works via the TV remote via HEC ARC.

Seeing you mention Mi Box gave me a reminder to add it to mine. I had to do a search to find my login, it seems I first registered it in May 2014 so it goes to show they are pretty reliable.

Not a fan of CEC. It's too unpredictable as most manufacturers do not implement it fully and choose a subset of the full standard.
In a previous role as a sales engineer for hospitality TVs, I discovered the full horror of incompatibility.
Many hotels chose domestic TVs for their installations and the hideous process of trying to get them to work reliably over CEC pushed me out of the industry.
To their credit the hospitality industry ratified a set of standards for CEC; but as far a domestic goes, if it works for you: "Happy Days".
Could not rely on CEC, if someone was paying me for the work. Also Foxtel does not support CEC on any of its hardware (and Apple TV 4 does).
Clearly Foxtel do not want the call centre to be bothered with trying to help customers getting their (whatever brand of TV) work with their hardware. Cannot say I blame them.

Does the zidoo....hmmm. I have a 350, but never looked to see if it does the zidoo.

The only remote I need is a wireless mouse.

Same. I'll look into it when I get back home after the break.
