good news , but comes too late for us owners of 2015 - 2018 Toyotas with the 2.8 1GD diesel engine. The Prado is now at 41,000klm . So far ive had DPF issues , timing chains replaced , Transfer case actuator and shift forks replaced , Brake discs are warping and water pump is starting to leak. I suspect a fault with the 4WD switch and the dust sealing could be better too. I'm not happy with the chassis corrosion coating or the very thin body paint. So far Toyota have been covering everything under warranty with not too much of a fight. Would i buy another ? Yes. They are still better than some other makes.

Pretty common now isn't it, 10 of the 11 most popular manufactures now offer 5 or more years warranty in AU.
What that means in reality is an entirely different thing though
Jeep has a 5 year warranty....... Hmmmmmmm
You only have to look at December sales figures to see why these manufactures are jumping at anything to shift the stock pile of cars

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
quite true , Warranty claims so far have been ok , but i do know a reasonable amount about cars , and i can call up the same common issues on Fcebook and Toyota forums to back up my claims. If it was my missus taking the car in the dealer arsewipes would have fobbed her off. Of course each time i raise an issue i get the old " wow we have never seen that before "

Extended warranties mean nothing if they won't honour them.
There never used to be any legal obligation for car companies to honour their warranties, in QLD anyway, not sure about other states.
Early 2000's I discovered that, might have changed by now though.
XCRUISER HDSR600HD twin sat and terrestrial receiver $OOS *
XCRUISER HDSR385 Avant - sold out$OOS UltraPlus DVB-T and DVB-S2 tuners $49 Remotes $OOS
The one I got stung with was a factory warranty, 3 year/100,000k.
Long story short it was a 4wd, and it was nothing but trouble from day 1.
They refused to honour the warranty because I used it "offroad".
Their definition of offroad was "a non-bitumen formed road", anything other than that like across the paddocks, muddy, sandy, rocky etc. etc. tracks that normal people call offroad wasn't covered according to them & that info wasn't stated anywhere in the warranty terms.
That's how I found out there was no legal obligation for them to honour their warranties
I have a brand new hilux auto that won't stay in 6th gear.
Stays in 5th with converter unlocked.
They're trying to tell me there's nothing wrong with it.

The car industry is still living in the 1960s. They haven't caught up with the 1990s Internet revolution yet.
A friend of mine bought a Nissan Juke (a hideous car IMHO). The car had an intermittent fault from day one: the engine would stop suddenly and without warning. After some time, it would start again and everything would be fine for a few days or even weeks, then it would do it again. She drives a lot of kilometers for work and her FaceBook friends were treated to a stream of photos of her new car, broken down on the side of the highway somewhere... waiting for a tow truck... AGAIN.
The local Nissan dealer didn't have a clue and their attempts to fix the problem were actually introducing new faults. Every time she discussed it with the local dealership or with Nissan themselves, it was the age old line "we've never heard of this happening to anyone else". A few minutes searching on Google turned up an owners forum with a (then) 35 page long thread on owners complaining of exactly the same fault AND their dealer / Nissan claiming that their problem was unique.
She got a new car, but wouldn't have without the Internet forum posts as ammunition.
I am surprised these internet posts carry any weight when it comes to a dealer.
I remember years ago going to a dealer for a similar situation (GF's 2008 Ford Focus), they gave us the same "First we have heard about it" response
I showed them the list of complaints online and they said, "we can't trust that information, could be anyone"
The vehicle wasn't even 12months old
They would keep ot for a week, tell us they have fixed it, then 3 weeks later the fault would happen again
To which they would give us a dealers second favourite line "You must have got bad fuel"
Round and round we went circles for months.... At no point did they seem to understand the problem or be able to accurately diagnose it.
But at every oppertunity were more than happy to suggest it was our doing or bad fuel or a one off event.
To get back to admin's post, Toyota now having a 5 year warranty will have the Hilux, Prado and Fortuner DPF department working overtime

Prados do that too , I havent worried about it as i dont often do long drives and its not the sort of issue which will leave me stranded on the side of the road.
I was told its programmed that way to keep the DPF temperature high while its doing a burn.
There is a mob called Wholesale automatics in Melbourne who sell a lock up torque convertor kit for that very issue. I'd love to clone it but im not that good ( not good at all ) with PWM modules
All 200 Series LC's do it too, including the Non DPF models
I trip to Murray Bridge, SA. solves the problem, it also electronically deletes your EGR and correctly tunes the vehicle to suit a larger exhaust
Massive temp drops in the transmission are gained, especially when towing or worse, towing up hills.
He offers the same treatment for all AC60F gearbox runners
He is a very very smart man, developed all his own software and logic boards.
In saying this, Toyota now having a 5 year warranty will be a reason many don't touch their vehicles, incase they void the warranty.

I have a 2017 Holden with a 7 year warranty. Unfortunately I had to exercise it, but they came through without question.
Although the embarrassment had they not would have been huge.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

Hate to be the grim reaper re new Toyota 4x4 and you are going to be driving in dusty conditions. There is a gap in the air filter allowing particles of 5 microns thru. Toyota are saying this is acceptable, but a Uni of Newcastle professor is saying this is crap and particles should be no larger than .4 microns (note the point) see if i can find the link
Applies to Landcruisers and Hilux. Some are doing a temporary repair using one sided foam tape or mastic to force the air thru the filter
Toyotas ain't Toyotas any more, glad i bought a Ranger with a dpf and shit economy
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"
Just go to Google and there are many articles re the dust problem. Hope Toyota are going to honor their warranties just like Nissan and the Turbo Gate problem
