    Question NESS D16X gone haywire

    Hey Folks

I recently went on holidays, and while I was away my D16X decided to start opening and closing my garage door (via AUX relay board) - not ideal (and a surprise) for my house-sitters!!. The Navigator panel also went blank. I turned off the alarm for a few days, and when turning it back on, it straight away activated the relay again. I then powered it off, opened up the case and then powered on (which brought it up in programmer mode). It seemed to boot correctly and then work fine - but after about 20 minutes or so, it again opened the garage door, and the navigator panel went blank.

Is this "standard" behaviour when the battery goes flat (even if mains is on)? Two bright LED's (which I assume are the "current limiting globes" referred to in the manual) are lit when I power it up. From the manual "If the globes glow very brightly the battery is drawing excessive current and may be faulty, or the battery is connected in reverse. Check the connections or connect a charged battery. " I'm pretty confident it isn't connected in reverse after 5+ years of service ......

Any tips or pointers? (I'm not keen on buying another battery if the alarm itself has crapped itself .....)

    Cheers,
    Chris

So just for anyone who comes across this thread with a similar issue ..... turns out it was the battery - replaced it and the problem went away (touch wood). Not sure I'm all that happy that a flat (or stuffed) battery sees my garage door randomly opening!

    Cheers,
    Chris

Well that's a ness system for you.
Likely that the flat battery caused panel to overload trying to charge old battery. And the keypad and relay board probably would reboot, triggering door output.
Battery should be changed every 4 years
