It's a been a very busy time since last Friday night and the dry lighten storm that swept the NE
Multiple fires, Fires joining, Changing Wind Direction.....
But today, just when it looked like some control, a new front of dry lightening is passing the state and causing new fires on top of already stretched resources
What a massive effort from the CFA and DELWP and Air-wing.
I know our local stand by air support went to Gippsland last night
Such hard terrain to fight fires
Seems mostly Asset Protection where they can
So many farms and live stock in the areas closer to Melbourne
Hope no members here are affected.
EDIT: since posting seems all have returned to Watch and Act status

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

yes I've been watching the lightning. Storm cells have minimal rain but lots of lightning! The hills around us have been hit a couple of times this year with air wing and ground staff attending.
I wonder if aircraft are being diverted around the Gippsland region??
Just had a Airbus A380 fly straight over my house on its way from Aukland to Dubai (that has never happened before)

Been at the Gippsland fires for 3 days now.
Really fantastic to see the local communities rally together and support
The emergency services!

Any truth to the stories emerging of local green run councils preventing people clearing trees around their homes and restricting back burning? Not saying they are true.
This was a real issue in the 2003 Canberra fires (nearly 500 homes lost). Fire trails were overgrown and unpassable due to regulations from our local green controlled government.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

Good to see the Aerial Support
Our local chopper went to Gippsland on Saturday
Now we have a fire 7ks from home that is currently not yet under control
Road side ignition point too, you have to wonder
