Money is no option... Well if you are in Australia, you have plenty of options
Where are you from or wishing to view from?
Ello!
Very new to this entire idea but i have had a friend ask me to do some research into getting horse racing (something like sky racing) with next to no delay.
Basically want as low latency as possible, so online streams are not really suited, and im thinking sky racings sat tv from the optus satellite would be the solution?
Any help and advice would be awesome! money is no issue at all and happy to pay whatever it takes to get it as low latency as possible.
Cheers

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
yeah in Australia oceanboy - wishing to view from tasmania mate
Someone with a 4g cellphone at the track live streaming. Is the best you will get.
Why don't you just get a Foxtel for your friends pub?
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
- not really a solution for all races ect, is there any other options?
- from what hes told me foxtel and any of the stream services usually have a decent delay?
basically wanting the lowest latency possible is there any way to pick up sky racing channels or similar? or would you have to go through sky?
(pretty much want to know if it is even possible to pickup sky racing channels without getting a decoder from sky)

Yeah... Interesting, because they align with all betting apps
Race Close is pretty much spot on
When you go to the races and watch racing.com or sky and look at the live action on track, it would be 1 second difference at best
(in fact, i've never ever noticed any difference)
Plenty of swearing goes live to air because they don't run a delay, they are apologising all the time for quests behaviour.
And who wants to drop a bet on in the last second anyway??
You should know what you're betting on that morning
Any reason for such an important broadcast?

but is it possible without skys own decoder?
and as for the reason.. basically wants it as low latency as possible.. seems to think foxtel is behind.

Is it Australian horse racing your friend requires or does it include racing from other countries? There are satellite feeds available for Meydan and Jebel Ali (UAE) and also for other European countries. These satellite feeds are quite low latency. However, there could be time zone issues and getting line of sight to the satellites for the UAE and European tracks.
If UAE and European tracks are suitable, your friend could look into leasing overseas equipment capable of satellite reception. Pictures could be viewed via remote PC access using skype or team viewer, both of which have low latency video transmission if configured correctly.
Streams provided by bookmakers or betting organisations generally have quite a bit of latency due to the delivery chain. Pictures direct from a satellite raw feed into a PC then sent by a skype video call or team viewer should be a few seconds faster.

Its on Optus D3/10 but encrypted
Funny, i know plenty of punters
They all seem 100% happy with the current delivery methods available to anyone.
Never before has there been so many options
When it is live, its live
Maybe you are taking about some races Sky 1&2 might play as a replay as they were held up on other races
(Hence only 1 could be shown live, the other is replayed after)
In that case, i have no idea how you will see that footage live
Uplink would be the only hope.

It's on some iptv servers, no idea of latency....

The pommie - Australia would be ideal, but whatever can be viewed locally would be good
Machida - any way to decrypt? paid for or not?
ocean boy - hes talking about the normal live streams, whilst we are talking a few seconds (up to around 20-30) its not what he is after, i get 99% of people would be fine with that but he basically wants it as quick as possible (short of being at every track world wide all at once )
Sounds like someone is after a loophole to aid in betting ..

Given the distribution is via satellite, there is inherent latency, regardless.

In some cases it will be a double bounce, ie, the uplink from the event venue to a satellite and down to the broadcasters studio, encrypted in the broadcasters studio and then re-uplinked to a satellite for distribution to consumers. The signal will also go through mixing decks in the studio to overlay on screen graphics and logos. If the pictures are also distributed by an online stream from the studio they will be sent to a CDN server that consumers use for viewing, all of which adds latency to the pictures.
Anyone who can gain access to the downlink leg of the first part of the double bounce will be viewing pictures with much of the latency removed. It seems the friend of the topic creator is looking to gain access to these pictures?
This occurs every day although rarely with Metropolitan or Provincial (terrestrial links installed) meetings they are nearly all country meetings Thoroughbred & Harness racing, why today I had Narromine NSW Optus D2 152°E 12670V 7500 , Kilcoy QLD D2 152°E 12661V 7500 would need a larger dish and receiver with good blind scan.Anyone who can gain access to the downlink leg of the first part of the double bounce will be viewing pictures with much of the latency removed. Your friend could try and get the Sky Racing direct-to-venue service? It uses the feeds on Optus 10 11923V which are the same ones all TABs and race tracks use. They're part of the Optus Aurora Digital conditional access platform. They are not the same as the Foxtel satellite versions of Sky Racing sitting on 12598H. For example, Sky Racing 1 is in HD. There are no blackouts and additional streams are available like Trackside, teletext and alternate audio. These would have to be the lowest latency satellite feeds available.
From memory there are 2 options for end users; one is a combined decoder/headend system called T-Mod which is designed for big venues with multiple screens. Then there is a set-top box service for smaller venues and clubs.
However, I don't like his chances. I'm pretty sure Sky assess each application on a case-by-case basis and install using their own technicians. Worth a shot though! They might be ok if you just have an ABN and a lot of money
