    Default Victoria: The Suicide State?

Is Victoria really that bad that people are driving off the roads to end it all?

The Hume Highway from Wodonga to Melbourne,

the road from Rochester to Tullamarine,

most of the Princes Highway in Victoria

have safety barriers either side of each carriageway.

How many other roads are similarly "treated"?
If Australia is a democracy why, then, is voting compulsory?

They are safety barriers for general accidents to stop you veering into on coming traffic, not suicide prevention.

The road out of Philip Island has those wire deflecting barriers in the middle
Sensational when a road bike with a rider and pillion has to avoid a retarded car driver that pulls out in front of you and sends you into the barrier
(Not me, but i was early on scene.... Not pretty, especially when it was a 1198 Ducati)

This does not apply on the Rochester road - it is two way traffic ...

Why then all the way along the left hand side of the carriageways?

Generally you can find barriers on the left where there are a lot of trees very close to the road and they make a lot of sense when you have to veer off the road towards the left to avoid a head on collision with the moron(or suicidal candidate) who is overtaking the oncoming traffic USING YOUR LANE.
Most fatal accidents happen on country roads and many end up in front of a tree where somebody had to avoid another vehicle or simply lost control

Update: A deletion of features that work well and ain't broke but are deemed outdated in order to add things that are up to date and broken.

Happened to me more than once....

I noticed that when I was teaching my children to drive, that no one bothers to really teach country highway driving any more. These kids accumulate their points without adequate instruction and practice on distance judgement and passing....something my old man was super keen to teach.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

No. But I can say that the road from Romsey to Lancefield has bollards all the way to install the barriers.

EDIT: This is in addition to all the existing barriers. /EDIT.

Previously the safety barriers on this road were only around power poles, etc. Now ...
