    Default ALON - Transparent Aluminium.

Some people are very clever, from the dreams of ordinary men, comes the future.

ALON - Transparent Aluminum - is a ceramic composed of Aluminium, Oxygen and Nitrogen. Transparent Aluminum, was once pure science fiction, a technical term used in a Star Trek Movie from the 80’s.In the movie Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home, Captain Kirk and his team, go back in time to acquire 2 whales from the past and transport them back to the future. Scotty needed some materials to make a holding tank for whales on his ship, but had no money to pay for the materials, So Scotty uses his knowledge of 23 third century technology and the manufacturers computer and programs in, how to make the Transparent Aluminum Molecule.Transparent Aluminum or Aluminum Oxynitride, also known as ALON, is much stronger than Standard Glass and over time will become cheaper to make, but until then will most likely be used for NASA & the Military.
    Cheers, Tiny

I wonder if it conducts electricity?

Invisible ( or partially) ham antennas!!!! No more weird looks from the missus when another large beam goes up!!!!!

"Computer! Computer!,Oh how quaint!" One of the best scenes of all time! S.T. IV has to be one of the best movies of the entire franchise.

Yep, that would be a big bonus.... with neighbours, councils, etc.

The impact tests in the clip generated sparks, which suggests a metallic nature... possibly conductive.

Well, transparent 'aluminium' has been around for a while, might I say since the existence of our Universe in the form of AL2O3 aka Sapphire

Patents to produce ALON exist since the 1980's too which might explain why it is taking so long before this can become a low cost mainstream process:

Then again most people don't require bullet proof glass, at least not in Australia, so maybe lack of demand have kept production cost high too.

It is a ceramic, so not expected to be conductive, unless supercooled who knows
It might be a piezo ceramic and produce electricity when you apply pressure to it, although the sparks in the video are likely from the metal tool that is impacting it.

I doubt it has more benefit than the existing versions of Gorilla Glass in cell phones and the solution here is flexible glass as the displays are becoming flexible to.
For spectacles it could be great and solar heating elements that often smash from hail.
