I could only think of using the same system as used on boats/ships.
But what you have mentioned looks impressive, i hadn't heard of it
What Thales is providing for the US Army and NASA is next level impressive!

the only service i know of is by thai group and you would need a 1.5meter dish mounted on your car ?? and be stationary . Cant remember the sat designation but the local ham club uses one for lansar purposes and we provide the service to the police who pay for the costs plus donations to the club not mobile but we wifi it to them and have control over the system , have worked on shipping coms with auto gyros but they are huge and gps controlled hydralics and are pretty ratshit in rough weather

Thanks for the extensive answer! I may get my hands on one of those. I was wondering if anyone already had experience with it.
I'll give you some more context about the application. I'm looking for solutions to get (near) real time weather data in the outback while driving. Untill now, I've found two possible options:
1) Download Himawari 8 images directly from the JcSAT2B relay satellite. This however requires a 2.7m dish, which will not go well while driving.
2) Download them using satellite internet, but this also appears to be a challenge. Mostly since equipment seems to be pretty expensive, not mentioning data cost.
I will further look into it!

Thanks for the answer! when searching for solutions, I basically find two types:
- the bulky type where you have a dish mounted on a trailer or car. These however will not go well while driving.
(e.g.:)
- the small, car-roof mounted products that seem to deliver the same service.

I can however not believe that there is no difference in speed or bandwidth?
perhaps you better look at the ads again they are for hotspots set up by you connected those to a sat you may not understand how it works

I will be going mid to end 2019
nearly right but back to front mission link is the hotspot , lets look at it sensibly you need a big dish to get the rf signal strong enough to do anything with ok. Next you need to be able to get it to your mobiles . Then to other terrains from the hotspot to other mobiles
the satellites are ripping around the earth at high speed and and all get the same ( packets ) but at different times depending on the position of the up link the uplink power determines if you get into it or not therefore a dish is required to give enough boost and direction to get there ???? from memory the circle every 91/96 mins around the earth so you need to store and forward (the (packets you are going to send or receive ) got it now ????
