Bought a new astronomy camera a few months ago but it's been so cloudy I haven't had much of a chance to use it. But did get some sky time the last couple of nights.
NGC 2997 is a face-on unbarred spiral galaxy about 25 million light-years away in the constellation Antlia.
Taken over two nights, Luminance the first and RGB with an Svbony LRGB filter set the second. GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, ZWO ASI 183mm Pro cooled to -10C, 719 x 30 seconds unguided on a HEQ5 Pro.

Good stuff, Learjet.
Thanks for posting.

Nice bit of kit you have there LJ I would love to be able to purchase a decent 'scope. We bought a 4" reflector for our son about 30 years ago and would love to get one for ourselves now. Problem is, time and money!

Well the really cheap stuff is still crap. But good quality gear can be found. You still have to do some research on the item in particular. Usually someone has already bought it and will appraise it one way or another. My camera for instance had a 20 something page thread on it on one of the astronomy forums so knew what I was in for.
I just cracked myself up.
Can you do better than that Learjet?
The reason I ask is because my local astronomy club is going to have a competition soon with some serious prizes.
I think you'd be in with a good chance.
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.
When they open the comp I'll let you know. The purpose of the competition is to encourage people like you.
This might give you some inspiration. This is a real time image from one of our telescopes of Eta Carinae. Exposure time on the CCD is less than 1 second.
I just took a photo of the laptop screen with my phone. It's a bit tragic how easy it is to use this bit of gear.

Eta Carina is very bright. Over the years I've done it to death, but I guess I should have a go with the new camera. Problem is it's been cloudy for months. The above photo was a rare break in the clouds.
This is Eta Carina in 60 seconds with a Canon 1100D DSLR + 10" F4.
