I haven't had any for a month or so.
The last one I had we traded insults for a while.
The funny things was that every time he insulted me he always started or ended it by addressing me as 'Sir'
At least he was polite about it.
man, is anyone else getting these calls
i know its cause we are still landliners but i get 2-3 a day
worst tech support, starts with, im from telstra or nbn (in a indian type voice) no offense meant
theres something wong with your connection (looks fine to me)
if you havnt hung up yet, the reply is normally
hahaha, silence, your not Filipino, or you can play along until they realize your not buying it
but they need better scamming lessons, the best one is though
the automated message telling you to press 1 to talk to them, press 2 to hang up, it goes to them anyway
anyone know what they actually try to do to your computer if you were to let them?
a virus or just try to charge you to fix nothing?

My old girl got a call saying he was from Telstra and that her internet was going to be off the air for 2 weeks and wanting details of any computers connected, at which point she got suspicious and hung up.
We rang Telstra and they had no record of either anyone contacting her or the internet being scheduled to be disconnected so I'm assuming it was a scam.
If she continued I'm guessing he may have walked her through a remote desktop connection or similar?
Andrew
Most of the time they want you to install teamviewer so that they can "fix" your computer. I lead them on as long as I have time, until they realise that I am not running WIndoze or a Bit of fruit. They generally say, "I need to escalate this" followed promptly by the call dropping out.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
Sorry Phil they were really annoying me so I gave them your number.
seriously though, I played with one the other day & he headed me to event viewer; obviously with intention of accessing my PC with team viewer, told him he was f##kwit, hasn't called me back since.

"You can lead a person to knowledge, but you can't make them think? If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
The information is out there; you just have to let it in."
It happened three times to me yesterday.
Each call originated from a different telephone number, but with the same voice and message.
It's very irritating.
yea you cant even block it, i think its the influx of voip-nbn services they can use
i only get telstra or your nbn service is being disconnected
how do they know im not with optus inett etc etc
im sure they dont, just hitting the biggest targets.

Leave your sausage out of it! You won't like the answer. they're using...............wait for it...................waiting...............keep waiting................your call is important to us, please wait...........................................you have progressed in the queue............................you are next in the queue............................................. ...call drops out because you are running linux.
Seriously though, there was another thread where the boys were discussing a particular land line phone that can block numbers, can't recall the details now, but it could be worth a look.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Have a look in this thread Phil;
Specifically;
from Tiny and onwards, the Uniden XDECT-8355 comes with a “Call Block” feature, want to block a number you add it to the Block Id list, I think Tiny worked out that you can block 30 numbers, but the beauty of it is you can just enter 2 or 3 digits and every number that rings with those first 2 or 3 digits gets blocked, i.e. I have blocked all none Australian Area codes, in fact here is my current list of blocked prefixes;
001
01
05
06
09
024
025
0266
035424
039088
039421
039749
04412
04417
0883
Tiny has had his phone/s a little longer so he may have a more refined list, in fact it would be interesting to compare.
If somebody calls and their numbers start with one of the same prefixes above, my phone will light up, and “Blocked Number” will appear in my caller ID memory, so I can still check if the number was legit or not, using a Reverse Lookup web page. However I will say every now and then I get a call, and so far they are missed calls from what appear are genuine numbers, but from people and areas I don’t know about, just another tactic the rsole scammers use to try and talk rubbish to you, spoofing legit numbers. But all in all as the block list grows the quieter it gets. Hope that helps.

I'll just keep the constant nagging repetitive callers on my list for the future.
What pisses me off is I had hardly any of these scam & survey calls before I did the compulsory motor vehicle fuel survey for the Australian Bureau of statistics.
It may be a coincidence; or did they sell my details to other survey companies who then sold it on to scammers. Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I remember a few years back I got a similar call - it took them ages to realise I was running Arch Linux!
The operator swore at me for wasting his time and promptly ended the call!
I've been getting a few of these the last few days too. First time for me though. Was funny when the last one called. He gave me his spiel about viruses jumping onto my computer from the internet etc, and asked me to press the windows button and the r button at the same time, then asked me what I had on the screen. I told him I have a small box with r inside it... He asked me to do it again, same thing, a small box with r in it... After about 4 goes at this, walking me through where to find the windows button etc, he finally asked which windows I have. I told him I don't use windows, I use Linux.... he lost it LOL... called me a fvcking something unintelligible and slammed the phone down.

Bugga, whenever they work out that I am running Linux, they just say, "I'll have to escalate the problem" and then the phone goes dead. I'm missing out!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
