Default Connection problem from Managed switch to un-managed switch

The problem I am experiencing is that I have a network cable running from the main server room managed data switch to the back of a warehouse to another un-managed switch. If I plug my laptop directly into the cable at the rear of the warehouse it works fine and network connection is there. If I move the same cable from my laptop to the 2nd switch, and plug my laptop into the 2nd switch I cannot get a network connection. I have tried 3 different "2nd" switches so I don't see this as being the problem. Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be simply that I need to power cycle the main switch to refresh the Mac Address Table? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    thanks.

No I didn't. I didn't think this was necessary for un-managed switches!! am I wrong?
