Why? I tell you why. As far as I know all the group that I spoke to (around 100 in the Pensioner Group and others) in the last weeks before the election when there Phone rang and it was a poll the lot of them slammed the phone down, so what happens when 90% of the polling people are doing this? I say they are Faking the Results because like most are sick of this intrusive POLLs that don't say who there from.
Years ago they would say who they were and then the poll but not now.
This sums it up nicely!

A bit unnecessary but funny....he'd probably appreciate it over a beer.

I was thinking about this very thing with Hawke the other day.
On the face of it he would stand by his beloved party no matter what but I wondered what he did think of the current crew and if he really supported them or was quietly doing face palms every day reading of their antics?
Maybe he thought they were on the money and doing great things but given the standards he set and the way he did things, I find that doubtful.
In the most basic standard of all, to me, Morrison at least LOOKS like PM material where as short head in his 50's? Still looks like the annoying dweeb of a kid that got the shit beat out of him at school for being an annoying little twat that pissed everyone off.
There will never be another PM in this country like Bob that's for sure.
Friend of mine wanted to interview him for a book he wants to write on outstanding Australians. He said he thought he'd have a lot of trouble getting some time with Bob as he had been put through the wringer with several people we both considered far less important, well known etc. No problem at all. Never got to do the interview due to things on his schedule coming up but Bob was ready for a chat and a beer any time that suited. Still a very approachable man.

I saw the 730 report on Thu just as the announced the death of Hawky which sort of skewed the report a bit. Morrison came across as intelligent with knowledge on all the topics broached, Shorten in an (apparently) pre-recorded interview could not seem to answer one question with any indication that he knew anything about the subject except the party line. Hopefully Labor have learnt their lesson and, at least promote someone who can, at least, look like they know what they're doing.

Couldn't agree more.

There are two quotes that always sum it up brilliantly:
One by Margaret Thatcher: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."
And, one by Winston Churchill: "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

Sco Mo's victory speech was the best ever - especially the promise about next Tuesday
You mean the bit about his mate John ####al?

Remember those sayings you used to get like:
"There's no I in TEAM"
and all that sort of thing?
Imagine if ALP's rivals used a saying like:
"There's no U in LABOR"
(U as in you) to the voters to give the impression they're not cared about.
That would sting.
Anyway, why do they spell it like the Yanks do?

I wonder how much time and effort Bill put into his victory speech?

Just goes to show the electors were right about Shorten and now that he’s gone down he is doing everything he can to take Labor down with him by creating as much turmoil as he can, he needs to resign from politics altogether right now, but of course, he won’t.
Cheers

BS was not knifed like Abbott, and I thought would be little more than a distraction staying on. But already there is talk of a ministry. I can't imagine that after the election the Party would want him in the public eye. Also, he is apparently doing his best to see that Albanese is not his successor. Given his new status as the John Hewson of the Labor Party he would be better keeping quiet.
So far it seems the only candidates for the leadership are Albanese and Chris Bowen. Chris Bowen seems to totally lack self-awareness and seems to think his economic policies were perfect and played no role whatsoever in the defeat. Albanese is by all accounts a great bloke, but he is from the left faction. Given the party seems to have gone too far left, this is not in my view desirable. He seems to accept that there policies played some role, and will review them, but seems to think that modifying them rather than starting again is the answer, at least with negative gearing. He may have a point but I think it would be very difficult to devise a good and effective policy to limit it, even if it is desirable. He has the added problem of being backed by Penny Wong. I think Albanese is the best choice of the two, but surely there is a better candidate. I know little about Jim Chalmers, but he is from the right faction, from Queensland where they have real problems to address and is not associated with the failed policies as Chris Bowen.
I really want to see an effective opposition. I preferenced the Greens last, Labor second-last and Libs third last in my electorate, which counted in the end as a vote for the Libs. I despise what the Libs became under Turnbull and was less than convinced by Scott Morrisson. I wanted to vote for anyone but, and still put minor parties ahead. However, as Labor became increasingly smug and their policies increasingly loony I decided I could not give them my support. I'll give Morrisson a fair go for the next 3 years and hope the Libs do well. But I do want a Labor Party that is a realistic choice for me next election.

Unity? Bwahahahahaha....What fvcking unity?.... It's obvious this "unity" was a total sham and a lie. Again.
This poisonous, racist, leso bitch will wreck it all.
Penny Wong is velly wrong.

Again reading today made me laugh at how all these commentators and experts know exactly what short head did wrong and morrison did right and why things went the way they did yet beforehand, they had all the answers for what proved them to be completely wrong.
Personally I think a HUGE factor was despite all the green washing and guilt tripping, people didn't want to see the country going down the tubes for a completely useless idealism that labor was driving the bandwagon for.
Was fun today reading all comments from the climate change zealots who were shown that people aren't as brainwashed with it as they thought.
Maybe BS is actually supporting Albanese, knowing his "popularity" anything he touches will be the kiss of death. He may have learnt this.....................nah!

It's more than likely a faction thing I reckon. Everything that the ALP does is faction related.
Word today is that Jim Chalmers has been advised not to challenge by the unions....not saying he wont though.
What a mess. We need a strong opposition.
