Made a 7 phase axial and one from a re wired F&P smart drive motor.
Didn't have much use for a brake but they were going to be controlled by an Arduino which drove a relay to either a dummy load or a dead short of the winding's. Water or space heaters can be good loads if you have the use.
If you are doing it for fun/learning/ experiment, fair enough. If you are doing it for serious power generation, unless you live in a place where the wind is strong and seemingly non stop, I'd say there is far better bang for the back in used solar panels. It takes a LOT of wind and a big turbine to make the sort of power you can with panels.
Before you go too far into it, if you are looking at it for serious generation, make sure you do your homework to see the sort of KWH you could expect in your area with the machine you are going to use.
