Default Talking Clock Service To End

Rather sad news that Telstra will after the third stroke of midnight on October 1, 2019.
I still use the talking clock to set the many devices at home to keep them in some form of synchronicity.
As an amateur horologist, this is an unexpected disappointment. So it goes, nothing is forever.

Yes, sometimes the old way was best

I get all kinds of issues with smart devices and Network Time vs GPS Time vs Actual Time vs Google Time
If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!

Surely they were using a low maintenance digitalised version in the later years.
Wasn't it also broadcast on Shortwave a long time ago?
No shortwave now of course thanks to typical Liberals cuts all at the wrong places.

Left with the internet latency it is really hard to figure out the right time these days, no GPS inside the house and my radio clocks haven't been picking up the VLF signal from Japan anymore, which is very strange.

I tend to rely on internet time these days. There are very few of us that need the correct time to the millisecond.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

The first Australian talking clock was delivered to Melbourne by ship in 37 crates!

It's amazing to think we can now carry many millions times more information and processing power than that in a wrist watch!

    Not milliseconds!
The Rolex on the last F1 was about 2 minutes late. This is buffering issue of course but I often get a difference of 2 seconds between my Mac and Phone both on the same Wifi. The Phone is usually late.
There are technical applications where synchronicity is important.

    Just use atomic clock time..................

The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

A couple of minutes isn't going to affect many of us. The F1 only needs elapsed time anyway. Of course there are always exceptions.

When I worked at Telstra Research Labs in the 90's they had one there in one of the labs. Don't know where it went to after the Labs closed.
