You obviously rate them higher than me.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

I dont see how speaking to a vulture would help

You need to talk to centreflunk re entitlements before you do anything and hopefully find a functionary who actually gives a sh*t

We were lucky with mum because she went straight from the hospital (untreated infection that very nearly killed her) straight to the best home we could find that had a place open, the hospital organized everything, even with centreflunk

Tuesday they are having a meeting with my wife, her father and the various social services linked to him via the hospital.

Hopefully there is a outcome that it suitable.

The stress it puts the person and their relatives is just criminal.

He is adamant that he wants to return home so as his house is not sold!

This is just not practical, his illness is putting pressure on his brain and his motor functions and the result is that he can collapse at any time. Full time care is paramount.

I really think I will be writing to every person I can think of and highlight, again, the deficiencies and inhuman treatment of our elderly!

Isn’t there a Royal Commission running at the moment?

About 18 months ago my mother became ill and was admitted to hospital and she feared returning home as she couldnt cope with cooking cleaning etc
While in hospital I registered her with aged care and arranged to have her assessed ( this is necessary as they will tell u what care they are available for eg TCP ,respite, permanant , low, medium or high)

You are allocated a number and assessment which hospitals, and nursing homes need for evaluate for further treatment.
My mother was eligible for TCP, Respite, and Permanent care.

She was allowed to stay in hospital under Transition Care Program (TCP) for up to 12 weeks while we found suitable accommodation,( our choice ) after 12 weeks aged care can send you anywher there is a placement and that could be hours away.
We found a placement in a Home close to us and she was admitted under Respite Care which is Free for the first 90 Days. She was then upgraded to permanent residence

There was no rush to sell the house, if another family has been living there for 5 years they can stay there and the house is not counted as an asset.

Now Centerlink where to start, they make u jump through hoops. The first thing u will need to do is fill out the Income and assests form about 30 pages
Best someone get Authority to act on behalf of the aged person to deal with centerlink
Also someone needs to have Absolute power of Attorney to act on behalf of the aged person (make it easier to deal with Centerlink etc)

If he does get well enough to return home all good but if he has to enter a home for respite just take it one day at a time, Centerlink dont rush things so why should you.

I stressed out big time at the start, but realized that the most important thing was my mothers health and happiness everyone else can go jump

    cheers thomo

Off Topic post deleted - Please keep to the original topic.
There are a number of posts in this thread which have nothing to do with having to sell or not sell the family home due to nursing home costs.

@george65 - If you want these posts moved into a new thread, PM me or one of the other Admins a thread title and we'll go from there.

    Update:

My wife has been going nuts researching and calling around.

There is a good chance that they will not have to sell the house but it will cost her and her brother on a weekly basic until her father passes.

    Fingers crossed.
