Better post some spec'z of your pc
its got a asrock mb,775i65gv,2.8ghz celron cpu
250 gb hdd seagate,ide
2x512 ram
gforce 6600le gc
its only a simple pc but theres heaps of info and stuff,i need,on it if possible
what OS are you running ?
did you try pressing F8 while booting up to get to the safe mode option
If she was mine the 1st thing i would do is take the HDD out and put it into another computer and run the drive as a slave and back up all that needs to be backed up
And if you are lucky the other computer will do a scan disk on your drive and even get her going again
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
Just un plug your cd rom from the good computer and plug your old HDD in to that cable and boot her up
If it doesn't show up then go into your bios and change it :

that sounds like a lot eaiser way around it thanks B4L,iff the other pc has xp pro and the one the drive is comming out of is xp home,that wont work will it,ill have to use a pc with xp home wont i ??
i have a pc i can install home on so i spose thats the first step would you say
Nah she will be fine mate,its only going to see the drive as a slave

Have you backed up all the stuff you need?
You should fine Scan Disk in XP
How to Scan Disk in Win XP
* Press the <Start> button.
* Select <My Computer>.
* Under Hard Disk Drives highlight the disk which you want to scan.
* Open the <File> menu and choose <Properties>
* Open the <Tools> tab.
* Click the <Check Now...> button.
Good luck mate

hi B4L,well i did as you suggested and then put the drive into the pc and booted it up,this time it let me into safe mode but tried boot from last good known config,but now she goes through the white text post then nothing black screen,and i noticed that the cpu light dosent come on at all,then either.
so im buggerd if i know
Are you putting the bad HDD into your good PC as a slave and just booting your good computer up as normal just so you can back up your info of the bad HDD ???

ya could always put it in USB ext case .. recover all goodies off it ... format it ...then chuck back in pc and reinstall OS ....
Trust thyself only, and another shall not betray thee.

nah the good pc is the one that wont boot,i put the hdd out of good pc and put in back up pc/average,like you said to obtain the info,but after i did a scan disc i thought id try it back in the good pc were it came from but still no good.
so maybe its a cpu prob or mb,but im stuffed if i can sort it out
thanks for all the help so far B4L youve been great mate cheers.
looks like shell have to go avd see my pc fix it guy and see what he reckons.
Boot from the XP cd
I turn my PC on, it displays some information on screen and then goes into an ATI screen, this I presume is my onboard graphics? upto this point this is normal. Next thing that happens is that the PC makes a beep, the 3 lights on the keyboard flash and the screen is stuck on the ATI screen
